This is really becoming frustrating. I'm using this game as a three month trial period to see if I know the hell I am doing when researching and investing stocks. I hate seeing gains in "fake" money.

I've used it in the past to try to see how levering up position size would affect my own account and my strategy failed pretty badly. When I pair down with real money, my success rate exceeds 60%. I figure for most new traders, loosing half their account in the first year is about a realistic cost of admission. The quicker you learn to fade emotion and execute like a ninja, the less the cost basis IMHO.

Could you go into more depth? I consider myself as a "new investor" using the game to learn a bit about how the market works and I have a few hundred in the actual market(money that I have kissed goodbye and don't expect to see much of it again).

I'm talking about gabling here, not investing. In other words, short term only...some sort of momentum, swing, scalping, or other form of trading based on technical set ups. A game situation can be a good learning environment as it's just for fun, but I see no reason in playing it unless your time doing so goes towards productive means (like learning how to trade with real money). I was just saying that in reality I do much better with smaller net position sizes (less than 3% of the total value of the account per position) then just trying to force the trade with greater money down.

Obviously you can also open a paper trading account and do the same, too. Probably a better idea if you're serious because then you can learn the platform at the same time.

It's like buying NFLX for $300/share on seeing them expand globablly, while the CEO sells weekly prior to him doubling the subscription price, announces spliting the company, and then retracts the split announcement, while the price of subscription remains doubled, causing share prices to fall to $60, and pisses off 14 Million subscribers.

Don't care. Only care about making money. I've made some great cheddar trading NFLX, one of my better trades of the year, actually. Check that, I should say "properly executed."

Been here since 2005.

A123 is a battery company based in MA, with plants near where I live in Michigan. A guy in my sub works there as an engineer. In this game, I had stock in JCI (a client of mine), which I sold for AONE after hearing they filed chapter 11. Crane's Detroit wrote a piece about how JCI and a chinese company were both interested in buying A123. This was not just a blind buy.

Just to get on my soapbox again cuz I know u all luv it, use the game to your advantage. For ex, I could have signed up and bought SVU for fun, but took the trade for real. Filled at 1.88 sold at 3.06 (some). Did I know it would pop? No, but I've watched price action for months and the data suggested something would happen. When the opportunity presents, you pull the trigger - no thinking, no emotion, no bias on direction. Also doesn't hurt I work right next to their HQ and see what's at stake, so going to $0 doesn't appear to be likely.

Anyway, good luck. Earnings is a great time to sharpen your skills, esp if volatility jumps quite a bit. I like to hear folks here are bank rolling actual monies from something like this.

Exactly. My thought on AONE is that since they received gov't monies, and Chinese investors were looking to buy it (which would look super bad politically before an election), there might be a bidding war. I was right on this one.

That said, I sold it at .16 cents. Wanted to sell earlier this morning, but meetings got in the way.

Still playing with house money, so to speak.

Somebody needs to follow ihaz aname's picks and invest real money. Dude has been on point for months.

I bought a stock a few weeks ago in another game and it apparently has a reverse split tomorrow (1:4) yet I went from 750 shares to 188 shares and the price is the same. WTF!

Basically lost $2000...
