Applecare or SquareTrade for Iphone 5?

This kind of proves my point. I dont want to be in a shared risk pool with someone who is going to break three phones in a year.

I appreciate the other things you have to say. But they ultimately come down to this: All extended warranty risks/rewards have already been calculated by statisticians working for those who offer them, The odds of you benefiting are negative. On top of that you are pooling your risks with people who are abusive to their phoens or in some cases committing frauds. The selling companies, be they apple, or anyone else, have already eliminated all risk by charging more than your likely benefit. that is a stone cold fact.

This site is slickdeals. We discuss the value of things. Extended warranties, even applecare have negative values (costs higher than average benefit). That is why consumer watchdog and advocacy groups say they are a bad purchase.

By the way I have had warranty service in Apple stores, often with instant replacement for MANY apple products, none with applecare. you have a one year warranty already. we had an issue with our 6 month old air last month and it was swapped out at the apple store while we waited with no apple care.


The best most logical way to protect your investment is to put that $100 toward your next phone. In six months much better phones will be out, this is always the case. Your actual replacement costs will drop if you still want the older model, and oif you want to stay current you wont want a replacement with the same model anyway./
