looks like it would take almost 3 years for a $138 DOCSIS 3 modem at $4/mo. to pay for itself.
3 yr. squaretrade warranty is $21. total cost would be 3.3 years to pay for itself. whats trending right now >>> Slickdeals Live View Feed TWC charging $3.95 to lease their cable modem - buy your own modem discussion if someone steals food from your lunch in the refrigerator at work, just make some yummy tempting cookies with laxatives in them. then just wait to see who gets the runs! that person wont ever steal anything from your lunch ever again!!! also, might be worth the wait to get a DOCSIS 3.1 modem when they start selling soon and TWC lists them. Last edited by ReverseHandedJO; 10-11-2012 at 12:25 PM.. |

So are most people buying modems then? 3 years is kind of a long payback period on a technology item like this. I have had to replace my TWC modem before because it just dies, lighting, etc so if I bought one, it would be on me to replace it,
I would like a DOCSIS 3 modem though.

If you're a home phone customer it's nightmarish. They insist that you have two modems connected at once. So that's two outlets, with a cable splitter and two lines, two modems on your desk with one running phones and the other running internet. It's a total cluster F, and there's no way around it it seems. I tried buying the same modem I have now but the guy on the phone wouldn't have it, you'd think I was trying to break the law by the way he was acting.

You mean the 6141? What does the SquareTrade warranty cost then? Have you ever used SquareTrade for a cable modem? My concern is downtime, too, a day or two might be ok, but a week without internet would be killer. Since these are the hot modem for the moment the price has went way up and they are hard to find right now. I figure I will rent for a month or two until prices drop and supply is available and then buy one. I am sure that since you own the modem you will have full control over it. |

on ebay the warranty is $20 when you buy the modem. so it would be 30% off around that price with a tuesday coupon. you would buy the warranty directly from the ST website with the coupon. parents just recently purchased their first flat panel tv so i got them a 4 yr warranty from ST. ST turn around is 5 days, they say and guaranty that. if they cant fix it they cut you a check for the cost that you paid. even though the first year over laps the items own 1st year waranty, the items own warranty prevails. so its worth getting the 4th year for a few dollars more. Does the referral program work in tandem with any advertised deal they might be running? I'll be keeping an eye for their lowest priced package on BF or so. |
