Torn bw the Maytag @~$700 vs the Bosch @ $649. I do like the 10-yr warranty on the Maytag, but if I sell my place before then, I wonder if it's transferable.

I am not handy. At all. And I removed an old D/W and installed a new one in a couple of hours. It was fairly easy. I'd encourage people to try it if it saves $50.

As I understand it, the 10 yr is only for the stainless tub not the motor or pump. FYI.

Sucks, the most important factor for me is energy & water efficiency, which appears to be the major complaint here. I hate feeling guity every time I run it...

I got roped into this dishwasher a year or so ago due to a recall on one of their other units. They gave me a credit to upgrade to this or I could have fixed it. Boy do I wish I would have just fixed it. They other unit was just the entry level but it cleaned a lot better, along with a better rack layout. Don't bother putting things on the outside of the top rack, they will not get clean. This was their top of the line at the time and there little cheapie put it to shame on basic cleaning power.

People these devices are a timer, a heater element, and a pump motor.
The quiet ones have good sound insulation, as in spray-on coatings, polyester blankets around the tubs, and pliable seals at the front where the DW adjoins cabinets.

Such prices are nutty for such ancient "technology", and the lifetime "energy star" savings are lost to making the stainless steel, plastic, etc., not to mention, for Euro & Asian machines, energy to ship them 5 - 10 - 15,000 miles.
