t-mobile merger with metroPCS approved

DSLReports has some interesting articles about t-mobile and metroPCS merger approval.

also, CONSUMERISTS was just talking about the two companies courting yesterday and today they where talking about a shotgun wedding.

Will A T-Mobile/MetroPCS Wedding Be Good Or Bad For Consumers? [consumerist.com]

looks like the main benefit will be metroPCS's 4G in major cities.

"Currently, the carrier offers unlimited talk and text with 250MB of data for as low as $40/month, but the closest comparable T-Mobile plan comes in at $70, and that’s for only 200MB of data/month.

“Based on past mergers between carriers, the lesser partner’s pricing is typically subsumed by the major that bought it,” explains Reynolds, “which strongly suggests that a combined T-Mobile-Metro PCS will adopt T-Mobile’s pricing.”"

so, if u get metro pcs you can be grandfathered in at their price but be able to use tmo's area of coverage? That'd be great. I have tmo now. Their coverage sux in the burbs and rural area.

yep, an article that i read said that one the best thing for the merger would be that metroPCS's equipment is compatible with the t-mobile network.

I like the metroPCS & t-mobile merger. However, there are rumours that Sprint MAY try to get back into the game...Isn't real world business tactics & strategies better than tv soap opera?

I just visited metroPCS plans, looking for unlimited 4G or LTE talk/text & data. I don't see MetroPCS being cheaper than t-mobile prepaid. Am I reading it correctly? Any suggestion?

You can keep your number wherever you go now...that might even be a law. I haven't heard of a company that is allowed to keep your number for years.

just dont deactivate your old phone before you port it to your new service
once you deactivate/cancel a phone line, that number's released back into the pool.

i've had the same cell number since 2001, and its gone with me from Verizon to AT&T to Tmobile and back to Verizon

when verizon & at&t realized they can cut out the dealer and offer the phones themselves, hence cutting out the middle man, it became more common to get phones directly from the carrier/store.

Just as an FYI. The only thing compatible from one carrier to the other would be the 4G LTE data services. The regular phone service would not be compatible as T-Mobile uses GSM and Metro uses CDMA technologies for that side of it.

good catch. that is what t-mobile would like to add to their own, increasing coverage area, as metroPCS has it in a good number of major cities.

i read today that sprint, after backing out at the last minute with a previous metroPCS merger deal, is interested in a deal to merge again, now that t-mobile wants to merge with them too.
