iGot an iPad2, now what?
So I won an iPad2 and I have to say, I am utterly clueless with what to do with it. Anyone have any suggestions? I have a Droid Smartphone and am preferably looking for things the iPad can do that my phone can't to make it worth carrying around.

Jailbreak and explore the plethora of tweaks available.
If you refer to your husband/wife as 'DH/DW', you're too old to be active on a forum.
If you ask for marriage advice on a(ny) forum, you should seriously reevaluate your life. If you don't know the difference between 'their', 'there', and 'they're', I automatically assume you have a mental disability (same goes for to/two/too and your/you're/yore). |

It's simple. It has a bigger screen, which means doing email, playing games, using maps, etc, are a blast, as compared to the teenie weenie smartphone screen.
It's unfortunate that it won't get along with your present phone, but if that's not an issue for you, then keep it and use it as is. It's a great tablet and it works silky smooth. If you do want to try a tablet but prefer Android so that it can sync with your phone, then sell the iPad now before it becomes a used device. I don't know what the advantages are of jailbreaking an iPad (I'm not much of an Apple fan) but if you decide to keep it, there's certainly no rush to do anything to it, apart from downloading kool apps and enjoying it. If one day you "want more" from it, then you could check out what jailbreaking can do for you. |

I mean if you're fine with your droid you can just sell the IPad and get yourself something nice later on or something.

Of course it depends what u use the Ipad for; facebook, light websurfing or (light) gaming and other heavy processes then maybe a light laptop would be better. Last edited by IamPro; 10-03-2012 at 09:03 PM.. |

Once you start exploring you'll find a lot of uses. Here are some nice apps to look at:
- Dropbox - sync your data files with your ipad - Netflix / Amazon video / xfinity (comcast) streaming video - OnLive / CloudOn - lets you run MS Office apps on it - SplashTop / TeamViewer - lets you remote desktop to your PC - The Weather Channel has a great weather app - Penultimate / Evernote to take notes - Snapspeed / PS Express for photo editing - And of course games - InfinityBlade, Osmos HD, World of Goo, Splode, Plants vs. Zombies, and Mechinarium are my favorites Here are a bunch more to explore, if you can stand scrolling through them one at a time: http://www.pcmag.com/slideshow_vi... |

If you read much, that in itself will justify keeping vs. selling. I absolutely love my iPad for reading. I especially love to read at night without the light on bothering my husband. I read all the time, and would have had to declare bankruptcy long ago if it weren't for the fact that most libraries lend ebooks now.
Go do your local library web site - and to the library web site local to any family member who would trust you with their library card number. And since ebooks/audiobooks automatically return themselves, there's not a lot of risk involved for them. Should you want to buy books, ebooks are now cheaper then hard copies, as well. People can get as passionate about their reading apps as the Mac/PC rivalry, but you can have several and use what you like. I use iBooks, Stanza & Kindle apps. If you get magazines such as Sports Illustrated, you often have free access to the digital versions through their free app. And a last note: While you're trying stuff out, I'd use free apps only. Many paid apps have brief times when they are free as well. Appshopper.com is a pretty good resource for finding these. If you find a free app you like, you may decide to go to the paid version of it for more usability later. Have fun! |
