I bought this dutch oven when it was last on sale, quite awhile ago, and this is a great pot with very good reviews. It is very heavy and when properly seasoned according to their directions, nothing sticks to the interior.

Yes. At least the one I got a couple of years ago is screwed on.

It's held on with a screw. I've never had a problem with the handle. I just tighten it every so often. I'd be wary about putting in the oven at high temperatures, but I think there are inexpensive metal handles on Amazon that some people use if baking at 400° or more.

The directions for my pot just said to season the rim of the pot and edge of the lid since those are the only two points of exposed cast iron. I don't think that would have any impact on whether food sticks to the interior. Is it possible that you're thinking of another pot?

Edit: And FWIW, I bought the pot for $34 in May 2010 and have used it 1-2 times per week since then. It's still in great shape and our favorite pot for chili, soup, pasta, etc.! We don't use metal utensils or metal scrubbers on it and always hand wash it. So, I can't say how well it would hold up to that kind of abuse.

Thanks OP. Walmart seems to have this deal every 2-3 months. This time I decided to get one since I cook all the time.

From all the things I've read about this dutch oven (on Amazon, America's Test Kitchen, etc) it seems to be a good deal.

The bad:

Well, it's only fault is that it's not Le Creuset. [lecreuset.com] Do not buy this and think it's going to compare to a $250 dutch oven. It's not going to have the same layers of enamel as the expensive one and and a result, it won't last as long. But for $35 you can't complain that much!
The other thing is the handle is supposed to be meh. Many reviewers recommended going to Lowe's or Home Depot to buy a more durable metal knob.
Also, always use a heat-proof rubber spatula or a wooden spoon when using this. Never use metal utensils because they can scratch the coating.

I picked this up for the house the last time it was posted on SD for this price. This is a quality porcelain-coated cast-iron dutch oven. We've used it a handful of times and it has all the qualities you'd expect in a good cast-iron dutch oven and the cleanup is easy with the porcelain coating. TU!
