In an attempt to get comfortable with the product being made in China I checked NSF's site to see if it was certified. While Tramontina does has products that are NSF-certified, this product based on the model number on Wal-Mart's site (80131/514) does not appear to be:

Is there anything you can/would cook in a crock pot that you wouldn't be able to make in a Dutch Oven? I already have a crock pot or a slow cooker or something that I use occasionally, but have always wanted a dutch oven. If I get a dutch oven would it do everything the crock pot does? Would I be able to get rid of my crock pot? Thanks! Reputation points for anyone that answers my question. .
Rep those who help you or give good information.Never call!!! If the store employees find out about the deal, you will kill the deal. And then I will make you sleep with da fishes. Kapesh? ![]() |

I know this was not addressed to me but, Im a scientist. im going to inform people, to research or just read a science journal..a few times a year. Hell, an eight grade science book is good, 2. U don't need post doc certs., to know, bad things happen to people who consume certain chemicals, metals, man made or not, food, etc., This is not a knock on buying this pot or any other product. Just know people are at risk and knowing is half the battle. Recycle old quailty items, reuse a quality item or reduce your use or exposure to an unregulated process or product. Buy the best product that suits you and enjoy life... Last edited by ballershanelle; 10-07-2012 at 12:27 PM.. |

to you both. I went ahead and ordered the Walmart Tramontina dutch oven using site to store shipping. Picked it up today and opened it when I got home and there's a big chip in the enamel!!![]() Ugh, was going to exchange it, but the Sam's Club one looks better and it's $5 more. I might get that one instead. |

I bought this a couple of years ago, and it pretty much lives on my stove. I use it for everything, I don't think you can go wrong for the price. It does have some residual browning from using it so much, but it doesn't have any effect on the cooking or the food. Just from use......

Just got mine and I couldn't be happier. Came in perfect condition and the finish seems excellent. Used it to cook some chicken in the oven and it turned out great.
If they put a display with these in a kitchen supply store right next to the Le Creuset dutch ovens, they could easily sell them for $100+ all day long and people would walk away thinking they just scored a deal. Even the packaging is top notch and high-end feeling. HITLER REACTING TO HIS HP TOUCHPAD

I just got mine and seasoned it according to the directions. However, it doesn't mention how you're supposed to wash it. I know with cast iron you shouldn't use soap but what about something like this that is enameled? What's the proper method without having to re-season the exposed cast iron edge?

Below email from tramontina regarding the plastic knob versus the stainless steel knob shown on their website.... in case anyone is interested in a knob from tramontina.
"Thank you for contacting Tramontina! The stainless steel knob is an upgrade for your dutch oven, but your black phenolic knob can be used in the oven up to temperatures of 400 degrees. The stainless steel will only allow an extra 50 degrees as that is the max temperature of the pot itself. You can order this knob (K.80131/571 – cost $14.99 plus postage) over the phone by calling the customer service number mentioned below on Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm CST. We would be glad to help you with your order. Thank you! Tramontina Customer Service 1-800-221-7809 x1445" |
