Thanks for the links. Few things I would like to point out. You will only need to terminate both ends if you plug them directly into your equipment. If you are installing wall plates, or surface mounted boxes with RJ45 receptacles, then you don't need to terminate that end of the wire, as the receptacles have a punch through connectors. If you are connecting the other end of the wire to a patch panel, then you don't need to terminate that end either, since most patch panels have punch through connectors. There are some exceptions, but most patch panels use standard keystone jacks with punch through connectors. If you are connecting the other end directly to your switch or router, then, yes, you will need to terminate it with plugs. Also, the plugs linked are better for stranded wire. It will work with this wire, but you may pull the wire out of the connectors if you tug too hard on it. Ideally, you need a connector that is specifically made for solid cable. 5 TV's in the house with Verizon FiOS and we only pay $3.99/month to connect all 5 of them. Thanks to Ceton InfiniTV4 and CableCard.

The home already has coax cable in each room (except for one) so I am hoping I can follow the same paths and just switch out the wall plates to accomodate the additional wiring. Also, thanks to the other poster who mentioned running two lines to each room. I did some quick google research and that seems to be a pretty good idea. ![]() |

Yeah, wireless does not work. I have tried multiple repeaters, and different kinds of wireless. Even in the same room, they don't work consistently enough for HDTV stream. There is just too much interfierence. That'd be great if you can follow the coax, it will make your job pulling the wires easier. If there are a lot of turns, Home Depot sells "wire lube" but I am pretty sure any lube will work. It reduces friction when you pull wires. Good luck. I wish I could jump on this deal, but with 500 feet of Cat5e left over from a deal I got a while back, there is no real reason for me to do it. Last edited by blueiedgod; 10-04-2012 at 08:58 AM.. |

I had bought some modular connectors from China and mine don't work well. I got 800 of them for like $10, and the thing is, they don't stay connected. The ridge on the plastic bit doesn't work well, so they always fall out of the socket ): |

It may be the crimper. When you crimp the plug, does it press on the lock tab too? Just pull it back a bit (without breaking it) after you are done and they should lock in place. I had the same happen with an inexpensive crimper. Someone posted a deal on Monoprice, expect to pay more. Last edited by blueiedgod; 10-04-2012 at 08:57 AM.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |
