Wow, learn something new every day. I'd never heard of, or even really come across a need for, a switch/hub that ran OFF of PoE. I didn't even catch it when I read the description. I figured it was the same ol' PoE boilerplate and just mentally skipped past that to the things I cared more about.

After a little thought, I can see how these might be handy here and there. I recently cabled a small outbuilding for a client, and we had to have an AC outlet installed in the spot we wanted to put the switch. This would have saved that extra expense.

It scares me to think about how mightily this could contribute to crazy, half a**''ed cabling "work" though. Things splitting off up over the ceiling tiles, or buried inside a wall, no one the wiser. That sort of thing.
