Walmart.com has the following:

Lego Tower Bridge [walmart.com] $178 plus tax (reg $240)

Lego Pet Shop [walmart.com] $111 plus tax (reg $149)

97 cent shipping or free site to store. I missed the amazon deal on the Pet Shop a few days ago so I jumped on this.

Amazon has now price matched the tower bridge [amazon.com]- 178.55, no tax and free ship!

The City legos are so tempting, I want to make a diorama with the Alien Conquest LEGOS coming to attack!

not necessarily "play" with them but build, collect, display just like any other model kit like a car, or plane, or military vehicle.

in for one bridge, I have missed out on sets like the taj majal in the past because i never buy in time. but in my experience, when they go on sale like this, they are about to be discontinued.

How can you say something like this is a deal? You're paying 180 for some plastic bricks
It's a deal because the widespread retail price is $240.
But I suspect you're asking how "plastic bricks" can be worth even $180.
First, the Tower Bridge is among the largest and most expensive LEGO sets and there are sets that start as low as $5.

It's true that there is substantial profit priced into LEGO products, but there is also unmatched product quality with the uniform fit, finish, and durability of LEGO bricks that comes at a production cost.

Another way to look at the value proposition is how they stand the test of time versus other toys. I still have the sets from my childhood; they are 30 years old; and they still function as they were intended. The same can not be said of many other toys from that era and the situation is even worse with the build quality of toys today.

Finally, there are few toys that foster creativity and analytic skills as much as LEGO, and there isn't any other toy that I would rather give to my children for play.

Holy crap!! I grew up with Legos, and they sure have gotten expensive!! I think the most expensive lego model was the pirate ship and it cost about $30 back then. Damn...

One thing is for sure: legos are BY FAR the absolute best toy for children. It promotes imagination, artistic thought, and structural analysis. It's also pretty much the ONLY toy that can be played with nonstop from the age of 5 up to 12 or 13. Hell, I know some guys that did lego models up through college.

looks like people with large suburban houses with storage just buy these up and sell them in 10 years for a lot more.
don't have to wait 10 years, but yeah that's the general plan

The modular series amazing. So much details go into these. Mix it up with corky minifigures and you have a grand display. My hippe just did some pot and went downstairs in the Pet Shop.

fair enough, but just because it's listed for that doesn't mean it sells for that.
Actually, the link that I posted is for a completed auction. Not all the Taj Mahals go for that much, but the one I linked to did. So yeah, it does sell for that at least on occasion. You should see the prices closer to Christmas.
