Find me a deal - 10gb switch. 4-8 ports

Does anyone know where I can get one in the $500-1000 range (or less obviously)?

The prices I'm seeing are shocking.

I don't think you'll have much luck there, unles you have a chassis to plug in some modular ports. 10Gb is still datacenter territory, so I don't think too many vendors are even making desktop switches at that speed yet.

If all you need is 10GBASE-CX4 you might be able to pull it off for less than $4000 with a lot of effort.

If you need 10GBASE-T it would cost much more.

Just curious, what do you intend to use this for?

You can get a deal from a reseller... just be prepared to drop $10k on support :-)

Nas to a few servers running citrix with the hosts on the nas through iscsi. We got 10gb in the servers for cheap and pretty good price on the nas, but might have to wait a year or so till prices drop on the 10gb switches. Thought they'd be cheaper.

We use 1gb for all our hosts now and its ok speed wise but have a few vms that need a ton of IO performance/yet failover capability on a budget. So instead of getting 4 physical servers we can got 2 and can migrate some of our other vms off our existing over loaded virtual environment to the 2 new servers.

We see $25 1gb 8 port switches all day long now...im hoping it wont be long until 10gb hits the consumer market to drive down data center costs.

Servers are quite common in house holds now, and many people use streaming media devices. SSD's are more common and cheap now too, so its only a matter of short time where people are bottle necking their 1gb connections and need more for bluray movie transfers and such.

People asked why we'd need 1gb in homes years back too and now its common and utilized.

Tech keeps moving forward and the way we connect it does as well.

Yeah those things are more common but the necessity for 10GB to fuel that bandwidth is not. Matter of fact I've found more folks not needing 1GB let alone needing 10GB. My whole point is that I think it may be a 1-2 generations before 10GB is common place and in the consumer market.

Yeah, you're better off looking at fiber connections or better yet, just bonding a few GB lines - it's going to be years before 10G is down to reasonable prices.
