where is your house switch/router located? i have seen them in hall, bedroom, master bedroom, and pantry closets

in rewiring my house I selected an area under the stairs which will serve as a comms room - telco is also there and I have run RG6 through there purposely.

Attic. Gives the best wifi coverage BY FAR.

Living room, to the left of the sliding glass door where the on the opposite side of the sliding glass door where the cable leads in to the apartment. So I run a 25" coax over the frame of the sliding glass door and down to the other side where the cable modem/router are sitting on a small rolling desk.

Ranch Style house, and it's in the basement. It's in the corner which is fine but I think I am going to move it more to the center here sometime. Main problem is I have to decide if move everything including the modem, requiring a coax extension but one good power strip which I have, or split the two running Ethernet which I have but requiring me to buy another good surge protector.

It doesn't matter because it's all wired, including with buried cables.

Attic will give best range for wireless, but I'm scared of fires.

When I rewired my house everything went to a closet in my basement. Then ran a line upstairs for my wireless router for better coverage in backyard and garage. I keep looking at hdmi over ethernet and might start moving cable boxes down there.

meh, just run a cat-5e to the ceiling in the center of the top floor and stick up one of these [engeniustech.com] using PoE.

Upstairs office (main), attic (extender), main living room (extender). That covers most of the house.

I stuffed all my network equipment underneath a dresser in my room on the 2nd floor of a single family house. The only things I need were the phone line (DSL) and a power socket, I have a DSL modem, two routers (one main and one guest), an ooma hub, two pogoplugs, one 8port gigabit switch,5 USB external drives/NAS, two UPSs, two SSDs(for pogoplugs), and several power adapters and power cords from the UPSs to laptops/desktops. All the LEDs from those equip make the area look like a small city during the night.

We have a closet which is centrally located on the main floor that I use. It covers the two main floors and basement pretty well, and outside coverage is adequate close to the house. I've been considering an outdoor repeater.
