 I was never good at these. For one of my projects, I just killed some guppies...  One project I did in elementary school involved prisms and different light sources... But I don't remember it being very good...

When my daughter was about that age, she did one on how well nail polishes held up and were the more expensive ones really better. We painted a glass plate with the different ones and ran it thru the dishwasher and we painted them on pingpong balls and bounced them all over the house. You can get really creative. Turns out the cheapies were just as strong as the more expensive ones (Sally Hansen wore the best). Just something fun and not too involved!

Last year my 3rd grader took 6 nails and put each one in a different liquid to see which liquid would cause a nail to rust the fastest. I think we did it for 10 days. He took pictures every so many days and he kept a daily journal to record the progress. He wanted one of the liquids to be orange juice and that was just nasty by the 10th day lol.
