Apple is not preventing resellers with the chip. They are charging a licensing fee to copy the design. Many manufacturers are willing to pay the fee and make their copies. They will not charge as much as Apple is, probably because they will take shortcuts and the quality might not be quite the same. Don't fret though, there will definitely be clones in the marketplace. |

Samsung looked at all the money Apple was making and decided to copy Apple. If you look at the Galaxy Phones, it's obvious they copied Apple's rounded corners, user interface, icons, et al. They put a touchscreen, added a camera and made their own app store. Samsung hasn't brought any innovations to the party, they've just copied Apple. Only reason Google hasn't been sued to smithereens is because they give away the operating system which makes it very hard to pin down monetary damages. It's easy to come out with a bigger screen and faster processor if you leave all the ideas for someone else to create. Last edited by stevenq; 10-07-2012 at 11:38 AM.. |

Sorry to steer the thread back OT, but I went yesterday to my local Sprint store and they had no idea what I was talking about.

People just need to realize some phones are better for certain people.
Android was great for me when I had a lot of time and no business need for my phone. When people "root" their android phone and talk about how "open" android is. Well locked bootloaders are causing issues don't you think? Ok so you dont have a locked bootloader... if you are going to follow nightly builds of new roms then you end up wiping your phone a few times a week. I hated this part... So then I dont want to wipe. well the screen is bigger... Well I wak around at work and want to text with 1 hand. I could not do that easily with the S3. Finally, My email was an extra 15 a month for android. F that. I'll stick to apple. Now. I like android phones, I think they drive innovation. You have to remember though, in my opinion, android has a ton of phones which kill the android experience. You have cheap phones that compete for dumbass people who don't want to spend money on a phone. you get what you pay for. Android competes with apple when you remember the razr maxx and the S series of phones... When it comes to Android, if you add in all the shitty examples of phones, i think android falls short. People seem to forget the casio android phones, or htc thunderbolt. both of which i have used and HATED. In Soviet Russia, Internet surfs you!

Yep, Apple redefined the cellphone. Before the iPhone the RAZR was king with a mixture of Blackberry and PPC. Blackberry is gong the way of the buffalo while Motorola is hanging on as well.
Apple brought the form factor we know so well today. Whether of not you use or appreciate iPhone you have to give credit where credit is due. Apple changed the game and Google saw a chance to be the #1 competitor to which I am grateful. Without them Apple would have a monopoly. Android pushes Apple and vice versa to be better. |

I used windows mobile for years prior to iPhone. They were usable but inferior. I had to import HTC devices from Asia and Europe before they come to the US markets. iOS is nothing like windows mobile.
Sony Ericsson also had a mobile OS that tried to servive, Symbian. That was closer to iOS than anything. That died a few years ago. |
