I have two MK550 combos. One at the office that I dug out of a pile of machines destined to be scrapped (found out the owner tossed it because it quit working...guess she didn't realize that the batteries were simply dead). I liked it well enough that I bought another MK550 for home.

I'm a software developer so I spend a lot of time at the keyboard. For me, a pair of AAs last about a year in the keyboard and maybe 6-7 months in the mouse. Get yourself two packs of Eneloop rechargeables and a charger and you'll be good to go.

If you like this one so much I must say you have to try "Microsoft ergonomic keyboard 7000" or its wired version 4000, i have been using 4000 for a few years now and i can feel the difference, a few of my colleagues bought the 4000/7000 after seeing mine, though they felt uncomfortable in the beginning they loved in a week. the layout and shape of keyboard makes sure that you dont strain your wrists/shoulders.

I hate the mouse with the 7000 though ..I have been looking for a Logitech MX mouse to go slick like with the staples deals. I hate the staples near my place as they did not let me execute the previous staple deals.
