My Inspiron 14z Ultrabook refurb order was delayed to arrive next week. I just chatted with Dell and all I was offered was an upgrade on shipping to next day. I guess I messed up when I used the bargaining point of needing the laptop by thursday (the original arrival day) because I was leaving town for the weekend, and now that the item will not arrive until next week I was going to go ahead and purchase a laptop at Best Buy and cancel the Dell order. So that may have prompted them to offer next day shipping to make up for it. But even with that they couldn't guarantee it would arrive by even Friday. I asked for a discount but they would have none of it. Darn! I thought I would at least be offered $20 off. I asked for $40 (my order total is $410) but they only said the only thing they could do was the next day shipping upgrade. I kept the order active with the shipping upgrade. But a discount would have been much nicer!
Edit: Well, my laptop shipped early this morning...but with no next day shipping! So I didn't even get that. I chatted again to ask why and they said it was too late to update the shipping. Couldn't they have seen that it was too late when I chatted yesterday? I asked for compensation for not receiving next day shipping and was offered nothing, even after a supervisor got on chat. They just refused to offer anything. I figured they would at least offer the cost of the next day shipping I didn't receive which was $25. But nothing. Wonder why some folks they work with and others they do not. Weird. Last edited by sacflies; 10-10-2012 at 10:00 AM.. |

The screen is better than I imagined it would be. Still wonder if I would be happier with the XPS 14 Ultrabook, though, at 900p. The battery life is nowhere close to 8 hours, on typical usage. I actually managed to drain it within 4 hours when I first got it. I hope it was a fluke. Apart from that, I just accidentally hit the touchpad sometimes, which makes the cursor go somewhere, and the left click sometimes doesn't register. The fan is pretty loud when I play Starcraft 2, but otherwise, when I'm just surfing the web, it quiets down. The laptop feels nice. I really like how it looks. I re-installed the OS on the 32 mSATA drive, and use the 500GB to store programs and files. It's pretty quick now. Don't think there's any other stuff I know of so far, but it's pretty solid. The drive does sound like it's being murdered everytime I insert or eject a cd tho. The wifi may also have the same problem lots of people have been talking about, but so far it hasn't been bad enough to be a deal-breaker. So, having said all that, I think I'll be keeping this one for a few years as my work laptop. |

It is between 3-4 hours. |

It was basically a debate between the two, and I ended up getting the slimmer of the two for $350 more... I don't think I got the best deal, but I think it is one that I'll stick to. The weight of the laptop is starting to show. I'm glad I didn't get the 15R SE, which is even heavier. But I kind of sort of wish I went for the XPS 14. It would've been ~$200 cheaper for around the same specs too. |

Weight difference between XPS 15 and 15R SE is 0.1 pounds |

15-I521 is sweet but for same spec. little weight and width I went with the 15R SE and saved well over $300. I know it is not as solid a machine as XPS but not many keep laptop for more than 2-3 years so I hope it will last that long. |

Dell did the same thing to me. My item was delayed until the 16th and I called to have my shipping upgraded to next day air. I verified with three different reps that my item was coming next day air. Well sure enough it shipped out early yesterday morning FedEx ground and not scheduled for delivery until the 16th. I called and spoke with a manager and was able to get a $50 credit back to my credit card. This did not come easy and I point blank told them I would refuse delivery of the item and go buy from a local store. He gave me a claim number and as soon as my item delivers they will give me the credit. I would suggest calling back and being very firm with them. Hope it all works out. |

Curious how much was order total was. $50 is a pretty darn good credit back. |
