I did the same. I said this was no way to treat a long time customer and I will just refuse delivery and buy local. I think maybe where I messed up was I should have called instead of doing a chat. Maybe it would have been more difficult for them to deny me over the phone. Not sure. Another thing working against me was that I live in NC and my order shipped out from Tenn. So it will arrive today (Friday). It was initially to arrive thursday, then it was pushed back to next Tuesday, then I did the 1st chat to complain, they said they would upgrade shipping to next day (but no credit back), the item shipped early the next morning FedEx ground, i called back to complain...but was offered nothing. Maybe if the shipping distance was further and it would not arrived until next week like yours I would have received a credit. I'm just gonna let it go and accept the package. I figure $400 for an Inspiron 14z ultrabook is a pretty good deal as it is. But of course it would have been sweeter to get a credit!
Curious how much was order total was. $50 is a pretty darn good credit back.
My order total was 559.61. I'm completely happy with the credit back and quite surprised by it. I figured I would get $20 back if anything at all. It really is too bad they don't follow one set of policies for everyone.
I would suggest to call customer service first and if they are not able to answer, forward the acknowledgement email to executives and explain the issue.
I went to reddit.com/r/dell, no response. I went to Dell's Facebook page, and a fellow named "VJ" took a week to get a result: "As per the update I received from the researching the details about these orders, the SKU number (which identifies the system that you are trying to order) could not be ordered for your State. Hence the cancellations."
Finally, some sort of confirmation that this is related - perhaps - to Wisconsin, as was suggested by someone else here in this thread. (Slickdeals proves itself valuable in this regard.)
It makes no sense to me. Why would I not be able to order this particular laptop if I'm in Wisconsin? I easily order dozens of computers a year on Dell Outlet. Why wouldn't I receive any sort of warning that I couldn't order it, or receive a notice that my order had been cancelled for this reason?
VJ was unable to give me any explanation, nor relay me to any source better than a link to "live chat with sales" and 888-517-3355.
