Have you looked into improved footwear? Depending on what you're currently wearing, I bet getting a really good pair of hiking shoes/boots will help greatly as well. Better stability and support from better more hiking-focused footwear should help.
I started getting into hiking earlier this year, did my first good trip in August. I just bought the cheap $20 pair at walmart. We did about 30 miles in the Wind River range in Wyoming going from 9500-12000 feet and they held up great. Not sure how well they'll hold up over time, but seemed to do good.
