It's a floating holiday for me... I plan on working it and taking a different day off.

I think it's mainly an east coast thing. I have customers in Maine and New York that will be off on Monday. Since they are off, It means an easy day for me.

Nope, I won't be getting any holidays off until August or so of next year. The site I work at requires 24-hour manning and the way my company I work for does holidays has us get floating holiday time that we can use towards our vacations.
So in February when I take some time off to go see my wife and daughter, I will have worked every holiday, but I have more paid time off. It's not like there is a benefit to having the holiday off anyway up here. There is only about 600 people here and only 200 are Americans. And the closest Inuit village is well over an hour away. Only thing to do would be get hammered, and I am not too much of a drinker anymore. |

Is it like coming up this week or something? I don't even know what day of the week it is anymore, let alone month. We're on the 60-70/wk work schedule for the foreseeable future. Thank god I'm not salary right now and just got a raise.

When is Columbus day? And fwiw, he did not discover America, he discovered Cuba or one of the islands in that area.

 I'm working probably 1/2 day on Sat (today) and Sunday...only cause I'm a greedy little Duck....and well those Credit cards won't pay themselves off...esp the one that I use to get gas with! OMG $4.65/Gal last night! WTF!? I hope its cheaper for you down in SD. and I think being on the West coast that no we don't get it off per our collective bargaining agreement w/ Mr. Jerry Brown...although I could use my Monthly Furlough day Monday...
