FWIW, I had a Y-shaped pressure tear with ragged edges above my eyebrow and purchased kelo-cote based on my doctor's recommendation. I assumed a noticeable scar was inevitable, but wanted to minimize it as much as possible. Today, it is very hard to tell that there was ever any injury.

This stuff is snake oil, don't waste your money. Massaging scars can actually reduce their appearance, so it's the rubbing of the ointment onto your scar which makes it look better, not this crap.

I don't have experience with the Mederma product, but my experience convinces me that kelo-cote does reduce scarring in wounds that are still healing.

Mederma is alive again, $10 for 1.76oz free ship from third party. Mederma is great for light surface scar. I use ScarAway for deeper major surgery scar. ScarAway is also on sale now, $45 (normally $60). http://slickdeals.net/f/5534570-ScarAway-Long-Silicone-Scar-Healing-Sheets-12-Week-Supply-45-S-S-MC-promo-can-be-cut-into-smaller-pieces
