I might be looking into a XPA-2, think it would be okay using that with my current receiver? Last edited by APhamX; 10-07-2012 at 10:41 AM.. Computer Build December 17, 2010

Something seems really strange to me as I read this thread.
In all my previous research on speakers, I always read that the AVR/Amp should not cost more than the speakers. So, assuming you get two of these, it would be $800 total. Yet, at the same time, someone here are claiming that a 33XX Denon is not sufficient to power these speakers (the latest model, 3313, costs $1200 on Amazon). Presumably, you would need to step up to the 4311 or something similar, which costs even more. So, I guess what I'm trying to say is that there is probably some bad advice in this thread. However, the speakers are still probably a good deal

I personally don't believe there's any correlation between amplifier and speaker expense. Some people pay insane amounts for less-than-superb "audiophile" gear, and if they want to spend
that much, good for them. My Hafler amplifiers output 145 watts RMS per channel, or 300 if I bridge them into mono mode. I'll find out just how power-hungry these speakers are when they arrive Wednesday evening.

Nicer speakers tend to have 4 ohm resistance. Your $1200 receiver would choke and possibly damage the speakers with clipping. The nicer receivers are spec'ed for 4-8 ohm resistance. Check your manuals. |

http://www.hometheater.com/conten...s-measures The real test of an amp would have been the 4 ohm load results but we don't get those numbers from the website. The AVR/amp should by all means cost more than the speakers since it is the "engine" of your speaker system. If you can afford to upgrade speakers later, that is the preferred order of enjoyment and not the other way around. Buy the best AVR/amp you can afford. I may have thrown you off when talking about 4 ohm speakers but I was trying to prove a point: let your speakers be the limitation and not the other way around. A Rolls Royce with a Yugo engine will be as reliable as a Yugo. Last edited by shaddai; 10-09-2012 at 07:38 PM.. |

Anyone who swears they can tell the difference b/w the lossless and lossy audio tracks of a BD movie on a system with a total cost of less than ~$3k is experiencing a placebo effect. It takes thousands of dollars of quality gear to eek out every last advantage of that lossless track and it all begins with quality separates.

The speakers in this thread are 8Ω, Suggesting that people should base their amp decision on 4Ω speakers is wrong. P.S. You're trying to imply that a Yugo with a Rolls Royce engine is as reliable as a Rolls Royce? Here's a suggestion: don't use metaphors if you don't understand them. |
