Verizon Tethering

My palm pixi phone died last week. The screen stopped responding, but I can use the keyboard to somewhat navigate. I missed the last opportunity to upgrade my phone on the UNLIMITED plan...I was able to use the phone as a free hotspot and then connect to the hotspot by my notebook.


Problem:
How can I still access the net from my laptop

Solutions:

1. Buy another palm for $40 on newegg. (Hate the small screen, and lack of apps, and inability to open most things)


2. Tethering. One of my friends said that I could buy a phone and tether it for free on my UNLIMITED plan.

Is this true? Any idea what phone/ place I can buy one?

Huh? Tethering is using a phone to provide internet access to another device, like a computer or tablet. Just buy a new phone.

Huh indeed. I did not explain my post thoroughly. My mistake!

you can only tether on your phone if you have purchased a tethering plan that goes with your unlimited data plan.

another option is if you buy an android or iphone and root/jailbreak you will be able to tether though its unlawful

the next option is changing your plan to a mobile share plan; which provides tethering service but it is tied to how much data you purchase per month.

in my opinion if you're content with the palm pixi, just replace it $40 is not that much. if you want a new phone i'd suggest the new iPhone or Samsung S3 both which are great phones regardless of what android or apple fan boys will suggest.

Not sure if it is unlawful since they are putting those apps back, but if it is...

A. What used phone is a good phone to use?

It's not unlawful. There was a recent court decision; Verizon is the one who was acting against the law by trying to prevent it - they even had to pay a $1.25 million fine.

I don't know about T-Mobile, but I know if you're on Verizon my first budget choice would be an iPhone 4, which is free on contract, can be found used quite easily, and can tether well after an easy jailbreak. If you have more specific needs an Android phone might be a better choice, but without any specifics I'd recommend the iPhone 4.

Verizon phones can do it.

Android phones had a app I was using.

Apple other than io6 could with jailbreak.

You would need to buy at full price to keep the unlim data.

I would be looking at buying a used phone off ebay. Not sure what is my best bet.
