Finally got my phone unlocked after 3 online request rejections and 2 phone calls!

Hahah, should have just saved myself the trouble and paid the $3.30 I saw someone offering the service for on eBay.

Oh well, it's done. I didn't even have to sync to iTunes. I had already activated the phone with an AT&T SIM, but I put my T-Mobile SIM in it and it was Searching for a few seconds. Then a dialog popped up saying, "Activation Required" and somehow the phone unactivated itself and went to a screen where I had to select my Wifi. Once I touched Next, it said "Activating" and the T-Mobile appeared on the upper left and everything works.

Back in VA and I got the phone. looks brand new. came loaded with iOS 6. had already paid to have it unlocked on fleabay, $4. downloaded iTunes on my PC, restored the phone and updated it to 6.1 and got the "congratulations your phone is unlocked" message. all is good.

How long is the battery lasting for most people? Mine only lasts about 3-days standby while my old iPhone 4 would last a week.

The battery life on the iPhone 4S (bought brand new) is bad compared to my previous iPhone 4 (bought this one as brand new as well).

The standby with my old iPhone 4 was about 5 to 6 days and the 4S is about 3 days. I may go to the Apple store this week to get it checked, but I don't think it may improve even if I get a replacement. Checked with a few other 4S owners and they say the battery is not as good as the 4.

Thanks, sounds like my 4S is working as normal then.

Did anyone else not really get their forced-to-sign "contract" canceled right away? I just chewed out AT&T CSR over it, after receiving a $115 bill.

I haven't received any charges to my card or any bills, but I received 3 calls from 1-800-947-5096 from an automated voice that says to call them. When I searched Google for the #, it says it's AT&T Receivables. Since they hadn't charged my card or sent me a bill, I never bothered to return the call. I also got an email last week, "Don't forget to register your account online".

Hmmm, not sure if account really closed. No bill yet, though, and when I call the number, it still doesn't work as though it's really cancelled.

I canceled the service the day I received the phone. Today I got the following message:

Regretfully, we have canceled your Wireless service because your account remains unpaid. Our records reflect an unpaid balance of $135.98. If your account remains unpaid, AT&T may be left with no alternative but to refer your account to a collection agency. This may result in a negative reference on your credit report if the past-due amount remains unpaid.

If you have already made your payment, please disregard this reminder. For your convenience, you may also pay by major credit card, debit card or electronic check by calling 1-800-947-5096.

Did anyone get this type of email?

I didn't get the email, but that made me think that something didn't go quite right with my cancellation either. So I called the # 1-800-947-5096. It's an automated system. I entered the phone # of the acct I cancelled and pressed 1 for Billing. The voice told me I owed $47! So I pressed 0 to speak to a CSR and she told me I was charged for activation and "added features", whatever that means. I explained the website said, and I was also told, by two other CSRs that I would not have to pay activation or any other fees if I cancelled within 3-days. She confirmed that I ordered on the 8th and cancelled on the 10th, so she said she couldn't do anything because she was a collections CSR and I'd have to speak to someone in Customer Care. She forwarded me to Customer Care and that CSR told me I shouldn't have been billed and it looked like something failed in the automated system that should have credited my account upon cancellation. She said she's informed a manager that I need to be credited and that I will receive a bill for $0.00.

Ugh, what a headache, but definitely call to get it straightened out so it doesn't ding your credit.
I will probably check back next week with the automated system to make sure my balance is $0.00 since I don't exactly trust AT&T's processes!

You can call 1-800-947-5096 to check with the automated system to see if there is a balance on your account, but don't bother talking to the collections CSR. They can't do anything. Just hang up and call Customer Care directly.

I got a voice mail today from AT&T telling me to call customer service regarding my account. When I called, she said that I owe $46. I confirmed with her that I canceled within 3 days and she transferred me to a different department.
I told him that I bought the iphone full price with no commitment, never activated and cancelled within 3 days. He agreed that I shouldn't get any charges. That department was going to transfer me back to the customer service department until I told him that I was just transferred from there. Then he talked to his supervisor and it's all cleared now.

Wait a pain!

I can confirm that I just got charged for the same amount too.

This is madness!

We bought a non-commitment phone and we called to cancel. What more do they want from us?!

Yep, I recommend to everyone to call 1-800-947-5096, enter the mobile # they assigned you, and press 1 to see if there's a balance. I bet their automated system didn't cancel out most people correctly.

I just called again today, and was able to verify that the CSR I talked to last week was indeed successful in clearing out my balance to $0.00.

I think I am finally done with this deal!

I got the bill for $44.05 and had to call customer service and to clear out the balance. Got an email confirmation after the CSR cleared it to $0.00.
