After reading a bit of this thread I'd definitely recommend Craigslisting an iPhone and having it unlocked on ebay. It's weird because my first iPhone (first gen) I bought refurbished off AT&T for some unreal price. It was like....$150 or something but this deal is bad.

I got a 32gb pristine 4s off CL for $280 got it unlocked for 8 bucks.

Gotta do a bit of haggling and deal with craigslist but it's worth it.

how did you add as no commitment to existing line? did you call? online doesnt allow it..
You just need to add a plan, any plan, at checkout. The checkout page will show how much the activation fee and first month bill will be, but you don't need to pay that right away. It will also show 299+tax which is all you need to pay at checkout. According to the sales rep I talked to, as long as you cancel the plan when you receive the phone, you won't need to pay the first month bill that includes the activation charges.

yes. this is a great deal, considering you can cancel plan and avoid monthly + activation fee if done within 3 days, i believe!
anyone who says a refurbished (by apple?) 4S 16GB in-box for $300+tax is not a good price is only being biased against apple.

even on CL, you can easily flip it for at least a $100 more.

and anyone who already has an existing off-contract line with AT&T, like me, can easily get it unlocked by them for free, just by using your sim card with the phone and filling out the online form.
i called a rep and he confirmed it. otherwise, it's $8 to unlock on eBay.

this was a great find. thanks OP!

I am not Att customer, it seems they do a credit check. Why it is for non contract customers?

almost ordered it. However, read the terms and conditions and it says that if you cancel within three days you need to return the equipment. Not sure if they will ask you to - but even the conversation with the rep listed here doesn't mention anything about not having to return the equipment.

Can anyone confirm ? Here's the relevant section.

1.2 What Happens If My Service Is Cancelled Or Terminated Before The End Of My Agreement? Is There A Cancellation/Early Termination Fee?

If you terminate your Agreement within three (3) days of accepting the Agreement, you will be entitled to a refund of your activation fee, if any, but you must return the Equipment purchased in connection with your Agreement.

You only have to return the equipment if you were given the 2yr contract discounted price. This rule doesn't apply for this specific deal.

so what does the "within 3 days" mean? the day you get the phone or the day you submit the order?
