You can link your Wells Fargo account to it and send ACH transfers for free (to and from Ally, as long as you initiate the ACH transfer from the Ally online banking page). No monthly fees, no minimum balance. You can use the ATM in any bank, Ally will refund every ATM charge. This is the best account in my opinion.

If you want a good bonus, there's a good Chase bank $200 bonus for a checking account. You only need to do a direct deposit to the account within 60 days. But you have to meet some requirements for this account to be free of monthly charges. $500 in direct deposits a month waive the fees. Good account if you have a job so you can waive the fee.
