DishNet is not the only company. DSL Extreme is the same thing. The cheap DSL modem will cost you $100 if not returned.

They do not need local channels nor did they want them. When the small satellite dish's first started out, they offered no local channels but had a feed from an ABC, NBC, CBS, and PBS station in the U.S. You may have CBS from New York and NBC from Los Angeles. The local cable and local stations complained to the FCC and other government agencies that it was unfair and forced the government to make Directv and Dish add locals to their channel lineup. For a time, Dish changed $6.00 a month extra for locals but later just folded the local channels into it packages along with a price increase. It was a big headache for these companies because of the added satellite load from all the different local channels that had to be offered. Prior to all of this, you watched the locals over your antenna.

No, they love customers like you that pay $80 a month for essentially a few channels you actually watch. Notice how those few good channels are only available in the higher tiers? That includes nick jr that i was getting raped on until i dropped them and went to netflix.

To give you another option.....

If you use Bing, to get the Bing credits for doing online searches, redeem them for Microsoft Points and then use the Zune Video App in the Xbox Live Marketplace to purchase season passes to shows. This is what I do for The Walking Dead. Ends up being completely FREE, since I use the Microsoft Points I got from Bing!

I also stock up on Hulu Monthly cards when they go on special from Bing Rewards. I have gotten the last 3 months of Hulu Plus for free, by using the 1 month subscription cards from Bing Rewards.

I was thinking the same thing!! AMC is literally the most watched channel for me. It has three original series I really like (ok, I admit I actually LOVE Breaking Bad & The Walking Dead....but only like Hell on Wheels).
Other than that, I watch Dexter & Homeland (online, one of the "Free" sites) and some football on local stations.

I would not pay a monthly fee for service that did not include AMC. Just would NOT do it. Period.

Gannett and DISH Network have reached an agreement regarding DISH Network's continued retransmission of Gannett stations.
This is the message that is posted on our local NBC website so I guess we won't be losing any channels. I did call and complain on Saturday and was offered $10 off per month for 24 months. I also complained about AMC and was offered a one time credit of $35 and a free Roku with HDMI cord.
