Redhat Linux need a how to on encrypting hard drive/partition
I am not new to Redhat Linux or to encrypted volumes/full disk encryption. I am new to encryption on a Redhat Linux box though. I have a home file server that I am needing to add more storage too and also rebuild. I am wanting to encrypt the data on the box as well. Here are the specs of the box:CPU AMD A6-3500 MOBO Asus F1A55-M LE RAM 8GB Storage WD 2TB green & WD 1TB green I want to get 2 western digital red edition drives (probably 2TB each) and put them in raid 1. Then install RHEL 6.1 x64. I will probably add more WD red drives later. This is where I need some suggestions. Should I go with full disk encryption or just encrypt the partition where my data will be stored (I am leaning towards only encrypting my data partition). Can someone give me some good materials on how to accomplish both ? I am tech savvy but am not a full expert yet so I do prefer GUI tools. Best case scenario will be that each time the box is rebooted, I can remote in or use a web based tool to unlock the data partition with a secure password. Then my network shares will be accessible. Thanks in advance |

LUKS seems to be the popular choices with cryptsetup script. Here are some RHEL tutorials: http://code.google.com/p/cryptsetup/ http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/inf...mcrypt.htm http://www.fatmin.com/2011/03/rhe...-luks.html http://redhatstudyguide.com/2012/...ncryption/ |
