The GTX 660m is clocked higher and much faster even if memory was the same type.
I used to have an HP DV6T-Quad with the GT650M 2GB of GDDR5, I would get a P score of about 2200 in 3DMark11 and I play BF3 on medium settings @ 1920x1080, was smooth but still got the occasional frame drops.
On my Lenovo Y580 with the GTX660M 2GB of GDDR5, my P score is about 2600 in 3DMark11, out of the box. I play BF3 on a combination of High/Ultra settings @ 1920x1080 and it's still very smooth.
I have overclocked my Y580 with a simple +135 on GPU and +150 on Mem and it gets over 3000 in 3DMark11. That's almost as fast as a GTX675m! Now it plays everything I throw at it buttery smooth.
