AKG K-240 Semi-Open Headphones $65.45 (lowest price ever) @ amazon.com

Anyone looking for headphones to use at home should just buy these now. These are an absolutely amazing sound. They are noticeably better sound quality, better comfort, and better durability than you will get from the poseur companies like Dr Dre or Bose at any price. AKG is the headphone division of JBL/Infinity/Harman Kardon. The only downside of these headphones is that they may not get loud enough from weaker-amp devices like certain cell phones or laptops. With my girlfriend's Macbook, it is just on the edge, if I really wanted to rock out.

How much sound leakage do semi-open headphones like this one get? Somewhere between traditional open and closed styles, I'm guessing? Any guidance as to how much "some" is?

Just trying to get a feel of what these will sound like from the outside. I need a new pair of headphones but my office is right next to the kids' bedroom, so I can't opt for something that going to be very leaky.

They don't get that leaky as long as you're listening at normal levels. If you're going max volume to the point where you can't concentrate on whatever else you're doing, then the sound will leak out but otherwise should be good.


The higher price shows that way because amazon went OOS and it's showing the lowest from a 3rd party seller now. I'd check back from time to time or setup a price alert at c am el camel ca mel .com (no spaces) for when they come back in stock from amazon.com. Won't necessarily be same price when they come back in stock, but that's probably your best shot at this point if you want these phones.

Hmmm...I have had my eyes on the AKG K272, been torn between those and the Beyer DT770, and Ultrasones. Wondering how these will stack up, half the cost of those others, even at $80. Open vs. closed isn't a big deal, since mostly these will be used in a private office.
