LG 50" 1080p Plasma HDTV 50PA5500 459.99 + Tax *B&M Only at Fry's*

First thing(s) to remember during break-in period (and is just common/general practice).

1. keep the contrast to about 80
2. brightness to 50 (or lower)
3. try to keep heavy colors to a minimum
4 . turn on the "orbiter" during actual tv viewing hrs
5 . run "color wash" every so often , possibly once daily or as long as need be to dispel images (30 minutes should do on average).
6. keep running break-in images when ever possible (usually up to 200hrs , more is acceptable and ok too).

If you do want to run more "normal" settings while watching a full movie or something , then I'd run the "color wash" directly after if possible .

Seems like a pain in rear ( and it is to a point) , but thats part of having a new plasma ; and if you do the above you should be fine. Also to note , during or after the breakin period , the screen colors, etc , should improve over time (some improvement should be evident even after only 50hrs).

This is my 3rd plasma , but first LG (others being a Panasonic and Samsung) and the above procedure has worked well .

Iam still doing my PA6500's break-in period myself , and have kept image retention at bay by doing the above .

I did notice some image retention while the TV was set to factory settings. I haven't noticed anything since changing the settings. This is my first plasma. I was not aware of a "break-in period". I'm going to read into it a bit.

Did you notice any image retention (IR)? I set mine up yesterday and watched about 30 minutes total of various sources and a lot of it stuck on the screen. I didn't have anything static for more than 5 minutes but after doing the screen wash for 15 minutes and break in slides for 45 mins, the images are still there.

I noticed it to. But just wash it out and do the break in.

I have three little black dots in the middle of my screen. I don't think they are dead pixels, just dirt. When I shine a flashlight on them when the set is OFF it casts a shadow which leads me to believe that they are specs of lint or something not dead pixels.

I don't notice them while watching tv so. Just going to live with it unless you guys have a suggestion.

I called my Frys up. Bought it in the LA location but am taking it back to the OC location. Just going to swap it out.

FYI - the guy on the phone listed it at the sale price we got it at...soooo.....it is still available in stock when it wasn't available at first.

Is it recommended to just let the slides go for say 9-10 hours at a time while I'm at work or is it better to do in short spurts?

As far as I know, yes.

Frys is carrying the 720p version of this TV for about the same price. They say it's a deal. I don't agree. Make sure the one you pick up is 1080p!

do u know about their today's $599 46" TV deal? like which brand and what model?
