might have to get on this for my new computer build! Anyone know up to when this deal will last?
Some references say it is a great antivirus; others say it is not an antivirus. What is it?
I have scanned with the free version for several years and it has never found anything. Is that because MES does such a good job, or because it doesn't find much.

Not sure what you are referencing with "MES" but Malwarebytes won't find anything if you are not infected with malware... or at least that's the idea. If that's the case, it's kinda hard to criticize the program for performing correctly.

The free version of Malwarebytes has saved my butt a few times. I ended up buying the Pro version mainly to support the company that has helped me over the years. I run free Microsoft Security Essentials actively and only run Malwarebytes on demand. Honestly I feel like I don't need any of this software much these days, as I haven't had any problems for a long time. It's more for piece of mind I guess, and some assurance against getting personal info (like online banking) swiped.

I bought MBAM for $10 in June, but this is still a good deal for $13. Just buy it if you're thinking about it. Thanks OP, +4.

It is now my belief that SD gets kickbacks for posting this....

Every month there's like 3 deals concerning the $10-13 dollar range of this...usually with something free too!

So it's no longer a "Slickdeal"....but just a great deal resumed! (or quite possibly something that should be the new retail price or it...)

I do not believe that is true in this case. At least I don't think that is SDs motivation in this case. $13 for software that normally costs $25 is slick!

On another note, you can ALWAYS get this directly from malwarebytes for $15 without having to wait for snailmail by buying through this link:

MBAM can't detect/remove rootkit.
shake head Soooooo not true. Per their FAQ [malwarebytes.org]:

Quote :
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is not meant to be a replacement for antivirus software. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is a complementary but essential program which detects and removes zero-day malware and "Malware in the Wild". This includes malicious programs and files, such as viruses, worms, trojans, rootkits, dialers, spyware, and rogue applications that many antivirus programs do not detect or cannot fully remove. It is important to note that Malwarebytes Anti-Malware works well and should run alongside antivirus software without conflicts. In some rare instances, exclusions may need to be set for your specific antivirus product to achieve the best possible system performance.
