HELP!!! "Display Driver AMD has stopped responding and has successfully recovered."
I have a brand new PC that I bought 3 months ago.I've noticed that at random intervals ranging from once a week to 3-4 times a day, EVERYTHING stops responding, then my monitor will go black/restart and a small popup will appear in my taskbar saying : "Display Driver AMD driver has stopped responding and has successfully recovered." After that, everything works again..but most websites that were open in Chrome, will be buggy until I restart Chrome. What could be causing this? ![]() if my PC needs to be repaired/returned, I'd rather do it now than later.I've uploaded my configuration as a screenshot. I'd appreciate any help I could get. Thanks!

Right after the problem happens, use the event viewer to check and see if there is any errors related to the display driver.
If it's a simple driver problem, I'd download the latest driver for the 7770, remove the old one, restart the computer, and install the new driver. If the above measure doesn't help I'd back up all the important data on the hard drive, wipe the hard drive and do a fresh system installation. |

As teetee mentions, you can try to fix it with drivers, but if yours is like mine was a few weeks ago, the only solution that worked was to reinstall Windows.
After that, I have never got the "Display Driver AMD driver has stopped responding and has successfully recovered" again. Problem solved. |

I would agree the first and easiest thing to do is to install the newest drivers (From AMD, not HP) . I have seen this before on a bad Nvidia card that was failing. I RMAed the card and the problem was solved.
Vague questions receive vague answers . . . . . .

I'll try reinstalling the drivers... but if it comes down to being a bad graphics card, would it have a separate warranty?
When a hard drive failed on my laptop long ago, upon checking the warranty status, it said to contact HP...because it was part of a pre-assembled unit. Wouldn't it be the same with the graphics card? Reinstalling Windows is my last resort here... Because it would mean losing out on a LOT of good software that I downloaded from giveawayoftheday.com, that I wouldn't be able to reinstall again since it would no longer be free. And it'd mean resyncing all my apps on my iPad and iPhone again, since reinstalling Windows would mean reinstalling iTunes as well..and that effectively deletes all my stored info. I have not yet been able to figure out how to backup my iTunes libraries. I have tried again and again...and failed. Each time I reinstalled and tried to restore my libraries, it didn't work. Anyway...I'll figure that out when the time comes. I'll try updating the drivers and report back. |

Also- the Windows that I have currently installed IS a clean install. It's not the same that came pre-installed on my PC.Because when I got the PC, it came with a 1TB HDD, and when I installed an SSD, I formated the HDD, turned it into an additional drive for songs, movies etc, and installed Windows fresh on the SSD.

Even though the HP website showed all my drivers as being up to date, the AMD website had this "Auto Detect" software which I downloaded. It showed me an update, and I installed it So far so good...Fingers crossed. I really hope that solves the problem. I did have to overscan to fill up the screen. (Hadn't encountered that before! Got really worried but a little googling showed me a fix!) |

just download the beta drivers, don't uninstall anything, AMD does a good job of cleaning up old drivers, There is no need to uninstall anything. get the beta drivers either here [amd.com] or here [amd.com]. If you have Virtu MVP like my Ivy build, make sure you install the latest driver for it as well here [lucidlogix.com]. Lastly, check your bios, if you don't have Virtu there is no point to be using Ivy Bridge graphics so turn that off(as far as I can tell the h8-1360t CTO does not have Virtu). GCN is still relatively new GPU so to get the most out of your 7770 you will need to update it again whenever the next driver update comes out.

Something strange happened 5 minutes ago. A flicker went through the screen..and then a few seconds later, the entire monitor went white. I had to reboot the PC to fix this. This has never happened before. ![]()
I already downloaded the latest drivers from AMD today...and unfortunately for me..the rest of your message was Greek to me.

Update: After updating to the latest driver from the AMD website, I haven't had this problem..yet.
Fingers crossed. Could any of you explain why this was happening with the pre-installed driver? And thank you all for the help that you gave me! Reps all around! |
