older android phone for mp3, apps (no data plan)
i'm looking for a used phone for my wife to use as a media player (music, movies, games, apps)any recommendations for older model phones that are well made without being the current top end model? priorities: - full touch screen - android (2.3 or later) - cheap (preferably under $100 on craigslist) - decent screen (size, resolution) - decent battery life - expandable storage with SD or uSD - dual camera, decent rear camera - GPS - replaceable battery unimportant: - carrier - network speed (3G, 4G, LTE) - the world's fastest processor. i'm open to new phones too, through various slick deals that don't require contracts. any suggestions for a great classic? you don't have to find me the deal, i just want to know what phones are good ones to look for. |

Samsung fascinate. We just begrudgingly gave up ours to our kids to use as handheld games pads due to upgrading to new phones/4g. They still rock and roll and I wish they had a 4g upgrade I'd still be using them. Under $100 easy on ebay/CL. I can't say enough good about them. Never a days problem in 3 plus years and still going strong battery and all!
sorry - no dual camera but they are hi def... E finita la cuccagna
Politics may not be the oldest profession but the results are the same. |

You want a lot for under a hundred. Your list is what most people who spend 500 dollars on the phone want. But, here's some helpful information.
I switched carriers this month, making my old android phone obsolete for calls. Well, sort of. I still use it with my Google Voice number (and GrooveIP), all the apps I've purchased, and the usual camera and music player/podcast functions. It's an HTC Inspire 4G. I was looking at current auctions yesterday on eBay to price mine, and they go for around 100. Pristine condition goes for a bit more, but I saw a fully functional Inspire with some wear go for around 80. So if you shop around on eBay or Craiglist you might luck into one. Here are the reasons why I like it and why I don't. It has a respectable processor and coupled with a 32gb sdcard you'll get several years out of use from it. It has an 8mp camera- perfect for videos and pics. If you're interested in modifications, there's a huge community support 3rd party roms and fixes for the phone. It has a big ass screen (4.3 inch I believe). I was looking for these things when I got the phone, so I knew what to expect. Here's what I don't like. With casual use, the battery doesn't last more than 6-7 hours. Heavy use can see if drain in less than 5. This wasn't a huge issues for me for two reasons: I could charge while I was at work for the ride home, and replacement batteries and wall chargers are super cheap for this phone. If you can work through rooting this device, it's perfect because they've already released a working copy of Jelly Bean for it. This phone (and it's operating system) have much life left in it if you're willing to root. There are cheaper options out there, but I think if you're looking for a large screen, this phone might work for you. |

HTC EVO 4g(the original). i use the sprint evo 4g currently, and it's a good enough phone. should do everything you want, plus it does have dual cameras. i v-chat using tango all the time, and when on wireless, it works pretty smoothly (although not as clear video as apple facetime).
check cowboom too. |
