These are low carb low sugar and have barely any protein in them. If youre on low carb youll like them. Otherwise it can be an acquired taste...

Yeah, these are not protein bars. They are basically candy bars for people on low carb/low glycemic/diabetic diets. I try to not eat any white flour, sugar, etc so when I have a sweet tooth, these hit the spot.

I looked at the label and there are 23 gms of carbs, 4.5 gms of fat, and 3 gms protein... I am wondering how they can market these as Atkins with 23 gms of carbs...

And I'm not going to get into an argument about high versus low glycemic, or simple versus complex carbs, suffice to say that all bioavailable carbohydrates will become glucose in the body regardless of how simple/complex/ high/low glycemic they are when you eat them. And as we all know, glucose raises your blood sugar which causes your body to release insulin.

And insulin is the hormone that transports glucose across the cell wall and allows it to be used as energy or stored as fat.

This is the crux of the low-carb diet: decrease your INSULIN by limiting GLUCOSE. Low levels of blood sugar (glucose) cause your body to release GLUCAGON which causes your FAT CELLS to release energy which is then converted into glucose in order to maintain adequate blood-glucose levels.

These snack bars are no better than a glass of milk in terms of carbs.

subtract the fiber- 9g and then sugar alcohols which are 12g and you get the net carb amount 2g. Sugar alcohols affect everyone differently so its hard to say how many of those grams you can really subtract.

Its the pro performance shaker, I'm not a fan of that one...

I did a quick check of a few of these bars at Amazon.com. If you buy enough at Amazon.com to get the free shipping, then Amazon seems like the better deal. In fact, subscribe and save is even lower.
