Are these things like printers where they make their money in the bags? or are those cheap enough to use on a regular basis? I've been looking for something for long term storage of ammo... I guess I could use it for food too...

I've been looking for one for packaging my smoked cheese and bulk purchases of bacon. I am waiting until black friday/cyber monday to see if they (foodsaver.com) run any great deals. They have run 50% off codes in the past and I want to hold out until I can get the 3880 under $100.

Yes, they do make their money on the bags. I presume that the air channel bags are patented, so they can sell them at a very nice markup. I usually stock up when there's a good sale on the bags. I use them mostly for food, but also to store prepped rocket engines, and I've heard that you can effectively do vacuum-bagging of small fiberglass and carbon fiber layups with them as well.

We use it to reseal bags of just about everything - marshmallows, chips, baking supplies. Anything that comes in a heat-sealable bag. No vacuum, but far better than a clip

If it's ammo and you just want to keep moisture out, you might get a small can of nitrogen and a roll of heavy duty poly bag stock with one of these. Fill the bag, blow it full with N2, and heat seal.

Lol, no need. LINK [wikipedia.org] An effective diet for burning fat and not muscle. Used by body builders, diabetics, sufferers of epilepsy, and me. Concept is basically: eat fewer calories needed to run your body, let those calories be high fat so your body doesn't store fat, be healthier. Does not raise cholesterol. Also check out this video documentary: LINK [youtube.com] Sorry, it is long but a good watch. It is in response to "Supersize Me".

Here is a link to another forum I frequent: LINK [smokingmeatforums.com]

There is a link in the first post for a place to buy cheaper bags that work with all food savers. Also, check near the end of the thread for coupon codes for greater discount.

Thanks OP. Got the display model. Didn't have the box, so manager wouldn't give me the $10 coupon and obviously didn't have the bags or roll. He did give 15% off, so was $32.26 out the door.
