This is a good deal, I picked up an HIS 7870 Ice-Q from a FP deal a few weeks ago for basically the same price and its been working great. I upgraded from a reference design HD4850 and the temperature in my case has gone down substantially. The HD4850 would get up to over 90ºC under load, with the single slot card all that heat went into the case, I've yet to see the 7870 with the non-reference cooler get above 65ºC and its ejecting at least some of that heat out of the case through the dual slot, and that's all at the same time as producing more than twice the FPS.

I would guess that people running eyefinity or 2560x1440 are not shopping for a 7870. I would also guess that few people running 1080p @ 60Hz are shopping for a 7970.

That being said, I don't think this is the greatest deal. I bought the IceQ 7870 with Sleeping Dogs for $200 AR shipped. This card would be $10 more for me and would not include the ~$30 game, thus being about $40 more expensive. If you can wait, I would guess that a better deal will come along soon.

1) Even at 1200mhz HD7970 is about 60% faster [tpucdn.com] than 7870 is at 1600P. How did you get 2x faster for a stock clocked 7970?

2) Where can we buy a $299 HD7970?

3) Some people just can't afford to spend more than $200 because they may have a budget.

4) Some people don't have a high resolution monitor and HD7870 may be fast enough for their needs.

5) What about $400 HD7870 in Crossfire against $450 HD7970 GE?

There are legitimate reasons for why $200 HD7870 is great value.

At 2560x1600 resolution, the 7970 is 28% faster than the 7870. At 1920x1200 resolution, the 7970 is 26% faster than the 7870.

So, if the 7870 is $210, then the 7970 would have the same price/performance at $269. Point us to the $269 7970, and I'm sure that some of us will buy it.

Edit: Price/performance typically falls way off track above $200. There are times when this is not true, but that's not the case right now. Looking strictly at price/performance, nothing will beat a $200 7870 or $170 7850. However, if you game at a very high resolution, then a 30% increase in performance might be worth the 60% increase in price (I think the 7970 has been around $315 lately). Another thing to consider is the heatsink. If someone buys a reference 7970 and either wants to overclock it or wants a quiet cooler, then they'll likely have to spend an additional $40 on a quality heatsink.

There you go, that's a little more accurate =) And they're not $300, the lowest I've seen is $320 I believe.
