DEAD - Craftsman 10" Adjustable Wrench $9 FS @ Kmart

Wonder how the Pro version compares to this which is $24 for 2. Not TC, just asking all the gearheads out there.

Those reflex wrenches are stamped steel, and the 'flex' pivoting heads are annoying unless you need them in a certain situation, but there are better tools for that.

The Craftsman regular wrench is a good deal for $8.99, or even $9.99. It's strong, it's made in the USA, it's got a lifetime warranty good at any Sears or Kmart.

The pro version is more comfortable to use, but the beak jaws are weaker and they don't really make a whole lot of sense on a wrench that big. The smaller beak jaws were where it was at, they were great for tough spots where even a regular wrench couldn't go, and saved you from having to grind down a regular or adjustable wrench to get the job done. Also as mentioned, the pro version is discontinued and you would only receive a regular version as a replacement if you ever used the warranty. Might as well save the money and get the regular one for the lower price.

These are laminated steel construction - not forged out of a solid piece of steel like the pro/ reg version. They stamp pieces of steel out of a flat piece of sheet and then rivet them together to form the pliers. It's a cheaper and faster way to manufacture the pliers. As far as I know Sears (or any other manufacturer) hasnt really had success with laminated steel pliers/wrenches because they arent as solid as the forged versions. The Robogrip line is/was probably the most well know of these but for the most part a lot of professionals hate laminated steel tools because they tend to flex, bend, and breakmore easily than the forged versions.

The deal the OP posted is a good deal for a quality USA made tool. The Harbor Freight, Kobalt, Irwin, Husky, etc wrenches are similar and cheaper but not made in USA. Sears sells Chinese versions under the eVolve and Sheffield brand names for much cheaper too. I dont think you can buy a cheaper USA made adjustable wrench.

Unfortunately, the Sears offer for free shipping to store with the Pro also expired, so you might be better off buying two via Kmart.com instead of on Sears.com, since they now have the free shipping over $25 offer.

Thanks but where are you finding that free shipping offer? I only see an offer over $59 tho. Gosh, it's a wonder they're in trouble, Sears and Kmart make it very difficult to shop with them sometimes. I even chatted online with someone and it was useless. They just kept repeating themselves.

Where do you get the information that the Pro version is discontinued? It(Pro version) is called a "New Item!" on both Sears [sears.com] and K-Marts [kmart.com] websites. I see nothing saying it is, in fact, "discontinued".

I can't speak to the quality of either Craftsman wrench being discussed since I haven't held them or used them, but I like to verify certain claims made, like the one you made about being stuck with a lesser wrench if you need to make a warranty claim on the Pro version. You have SD user 'Anime' on page 3 of this thread noting your claim

I'm just asking where the claim comes from. The Pro wrench looks like a good prospect still and I want to make sure your claim of discontinuation is substantiated before making a possible decision to make, or not make, a purchase of the advertised "New Item" Pro version that looks like a possible good wrench, at still a good price.

There's a banner on the Kmart.com site showing free shipping for orders over $25. Try it yourself and add the wrench on Kmart's site, then make the quantity 2 and it will give free shipping. You could of course add other items to get the total over $25 or wait to see if Sears does another free shipping promo soon.

The "new item!" is simply because they added it to the site recently, not because it's actually new. You can search yourself and see if you find any other Craftsman Professional adjustable wrenches on the Sears site. You won't, because they've all been gone for a long time. They used to have sets and lots of other sizes. The reason they only have a 10" wrench is because it's an old stock item they probably found a pallet of in their warehouse.

We have enough trolls around here making demands and telling everyone they need to verify everything. Some of us just have enough experience we already know this stuff and are just passing on the knowledge. I'm not making a claim they are discontinued, they have been discontined and that's a fact. If they hadn't, there would be lots of Craftsman Professional wrenches still on the site. There aren't.

You should start a website that you could link us 'out of the know' people to so we could learn your vast knowledge of Craftsman tools and what they have for future plans. I could see it being a possible money maker for you. The Craftsman Insider.....

For those of us that don't spend time tracking Sears inventory and what they may be doing could use a simple statement to back up their claims. I don't spend my time tracking what Sears is doing in regards to their tool line. The site says "New Item!" and maybe it is a left over pallet, but even your statement is conjecture. Make all the claims you want about what Sears/Craftsman is doing with their business model. Unless you work in Sears upper management, you can't have any definite clue as what the future is bringing from them.

Your arguing is immature and meaningless. I am also a big tool collector and can back up things said. The professional line is DISCONTINUED, and this item is simply new old stock, much like some nice professional pliers deals that were posted very recently. After this - good luck, they'll get warranted with a lesser product, and that is only assuming Sears will stay around long enough for that.
