I think I can easily pass on this deal after doing an inventory. I should have also passed on a prior sale on 3 sets of Creative Inspire T3000 for $10 each after rebates after coupons as those are still sitting in their boxes. I also have the following unused sets:
1 set of Creative Inspire T3100 (new in box)
1 set of Altec Lansing (model unknown. currently connected to a dead PC)
2 sets of EV SonicXS ($50 each) (one set new in box, other set replaced by $20 used HT receiver and 5.1 Boston speaker system for $200)
2 sets of Microsoft Digital Sound System 80s (one bought new years ago for $50 and one set last year at Salvation Army for about $8)
2 sets of Yamaha YST-MS50 (~$25 each)
I should should give away some of the boxed speakers for Christmas. Some would be perfect for a white elephant gift exchange. I had others sets I gave to relatives when they needed some for MP3 players or 2nd PCs.
I also have other speakers connected to working PCs.
If anyone is buying from the New York area, I advise to skip the 6th ave (Herald Sq) Staples and go to the the one on 8th. The sales rep had to ask his manager at the one in 6th and they can only do one or the other. I snagged it @ 8th for $22.84. NY tax ...-_-
Geesh what a speaker bragger! Now I want a Microsoft Digital Sound System from the 80s!
Bragging? No, I am just admitting I have a SD problem.
Step one for recovery is me admitting I have a SD problem.
The 80 is part of the model name/number. It came out in 1998 according to Wiki page[wikipedia.org]. The original price was too high but it went down to $50 when they were probably on clearance do to lack of sales. It was one of the MS products that never took off. Apple made the same mistake of coming out with an overpriced speaker.
I went to a Staples in the better part of town, hoping they'd be more customer service oriented.I had a BB print out in hand. They price matched no problem.I had couple filler items, then pulled out the coupon last. They sound fine for what I need. Can't beat the price. Thanks OP
Shot down at the first Staples - knew it wasn't going to happen as soon as the cashier in a half-brain dead tone asked the manager nearby if they price-matched to BB. Her facial expression reflecting a corn cob lodged in her anus gave it away that I wouldn't get the PM and the coupon, and I didn't.
Tried later at a second store, cashier was polite as ever and rang it up fine. Don't see what the big deal is, half the reviews on their own site mentioned getting the CA for about half off anyway.
