Gateway Core i5 Dual 2.4GHz 14" LED Laptop for $400 + $11 s&h

Hmm...considering this is a Gateway, $400 is not a good price considering you can get the Acer 4830T from Newegg for the same price. Even with an i3, that laptop (in fact, being the one I'm presently typing this post on) is far superior (and shipping is free).

You do know Gateway is Acer right? Since when is i3 worth more than i5?

I would get the 4830T just for the long battery life. I owned the 3830TG so I can vouch for the TImelineX series battery life.

Any one else think this may be a good deal? What catagorizes this as a laptop and not a ultra book? This is less than 1 inch thick.

Read carefully........this is a higher quality Gateway laptop than normal like the Timeline is a higher quality Acer. They both have aluminum tops and keyboard rests, non removable batteries with better than average battery life, and are lighter than the mainstream ones. I saw this at Frys for $600 and was impressed. For $400 I think no brainer. I have the i3 15" Timeline X myself from a great deal at Staples and love it. This one is an i5. Bought this for family to have.

While Acer is trying to be higher end they are still frequently flimsy in terms of build quality. Gateway has stepped up there game more successfully as of late. That said I own an Acer Timeline X 4820, and after two years I cannot recommend them. I've only used the newer Gateways and Acers and must say Gateway has come closer to being a quality brand.

Acer timelines do have excellent battery though.

Is this likely to fall in price? Very tempted. Never owned a Gateway before though
