Did you solder the new speakers directly to the old speaker leads and did you put any capacitors between the leads and the new speakers.

I just did direct because I didnt have any handy. And also I am pretty sure that the amp on the rocketfish board already has some filtering to protect the tiny driver from blowing out with too much bass. If you are using expensive drivers I would suggest a simple non-polarized cap in series with the cap value chosen based on the freq response of the speaker. For most midrange 8 ohm drivers this would be about 40uf. If you don't have driver chosen yet then take a look at the wolf's PC design I linked. I would love to see pics af what others are doing.

Cowguy, what were the specs on the speakers you put in the logbox and connected directly to the old speaker leads?

I'm browsing Parts Express and looking to do something similar with one of mine, basically just upgrade the speakers. I wasn't sure if the rocketfish amp had enough to power a larger 2" or 3" speaker. I also forgot to measure the resistance of the original speakers before I threw them away.

Sorry in case I missed it but can you power the speakers with a mini AC adapter as opposed to just USB. Can be a pain only charging that method and would like to leave it plugged in.

Thanks.

Yes, I've got mine plugged into a USB outlet adaptor and it works fine to charge it.

Sorry for the late response, the original speakers are 4 ohm ( am not sure about the power but must be < 1 w) . The ones I used inthe boom box are 6ohm about 10 watt. The real worry here is loading the amp not blowing out the speaker. Any 3-4 inch full range driver would work well as long as its reasonably efficient.

Yep I did connect directly to the leads.

Thanks. I picked out two small full range 3.5" speakers from PE's closeout section. They are 8ohm though so we'll see if that works. If it were possible to bridge the amp and run a single channel I could run the speakers in parallel to get a 4 ohm load but I doubt that's the case.

Then again, if 6 ohm speakers worked fine it's possible that 8 ohm may be okay too.

I had no problem syncing with my win7 laptop. Took only a few seconds, just like syncing a bluetooth headset. Not sure why you are having trouble.

Same here. Tried with both win 7 and 8. No luck.

It's been smooth with other Bluetooth audio devices, just this one is being a pain in the butt

I just opened mine. Yes, it's been two months but I bumped it way up on the crap not opened yet pile at that. Synced just fine under W7. Super easy. Why are people moaning and pissing about the sound quality. It's way better than a laptop speaker. WAY BETTER. For $5, it's a big score.

Doesn't this work with iPad 4th generation? Since it is bluetooth, it should ideally. Any one tried?
