Auto Insurance Advice

So why would I need additional property damage for an uninsured or under-insured motorist? That's what confuses me. My own car insurance covers if my house is hit by a car?

I was wondering about the same exact thing.

Someone driving a car into your house is probably covered by homeowners insurance.

Your own car is already covered by your collision insurance.

So when would uninsured property insurance come into play? I could only think of some really crazy situations. Like say if someone hit your car, which then careened into ANOTHER car/house/priceless art, and the owner of that property sued you for the damages.

The 1-month price difference between selecting $5000 of coverage and $50,000 of coverage was about $1, so I guess the insurance company thinks the coverage is for far-fetched scenarios as well.

So underinsured property damage applied so your insurance would pay for the stolen car? But wouldn't the owner of that car have insurance on the car? If not, why is it your responsibility to pay for the car?

No, so it would apply to any damage caused to his car by the stolen car.

I believe some states do not require auto insurance (NH comes to mind, but correct me if I'm wrong).

I'm continually surprised that people continue to buy insurance without knowing what they are buying.
