Nice. This cooler is on sale again. I bought mine from Newegg this summer for $15 after rebate. Keeps my i5-2400 below 30 celsius. Fan does not have automatic speed control. Comes with resistor to reduce speed. Noise is audible, but not too loud in my opinion.
Too bad this doesn't have a decent PWM fan installed. Good price still.
Well, it is very quiet on low, and fairly quiet on high, plus it is very effective. You can switch to a pwm fan down the road if you have to have it.
How is this compared to Cooler Master Hyper 212+?
It is very good. I have used both, and with the intel setups, I would use either one. This one is cheaper though, and doesn't have a pwm fan, but for the cost of this AR, you can buy one down the road if you have to have it. For 10 bucks, it is a no brainer in my opinion. If you have an amd setup, I think it will only go up, down, not front to back fyi. It is cooling my buddy's i5-2500k @ 4.3ghz mild overclock at 60c in prime95 all day long on high, and is not very loud at all. The 212 will ramp up and get just as loud in that kind of situation unless you swap to an insane quiet expensive fan, but that can be done on both.
Oh, this cooler will only technically hold 1 fan without rigging, while the 212+ will hold 2... but I haven't needed 2 unless using it with an i5 3570k @ 4.3ghz.
