Touro Desk Pro 4TB External Drive by HGST $199.99 F/S

Ordered three. Would not use this as a single storage point for important data. But it is excellent to pair with a WD for christmas gift.
I am going to pair one loaded (3.6 usable) with a WD for parents Christmas. Stick one on my router for cheap non critical data (my mkvs), and use one to back up critical data to another localtion from my non raid WHS.
What i like about this baby is it i is fan cooled. maybe not super quite but perfect for a closet. I do worry about passively cooled externals. Of course your second danger is the cheap power supplies on EVERY external, but as long as you dont use them for your only storage of critical data, you are fine.

As of the moment Costco has a glitch and will show and bill this as $250 plus tax, but I have an email from them saying this is a system glitch and they will issue me refunds of $50 per.

did yours come $250 plus tax? Mine did despite signing in with my costco number. so I called them, they said their IT was having a problme and it woudl be fixed in a short while. Didnt want to wait in case they went out of stock, so I asked them to send me an email so I had written confirmation. They sent one.

thats what it showed earlier, now it is fixed on the website to be 199

what type of hard drive is in it, i am thinking of opening the externals up and putting it into my nas

So are these Western Digital drives? The first pictures says "HGST: A Western Digital Company"

Edit: it looks like it stands for Hitachi Global Storage Technologies which was bought by WD in March 2012. How reliable are their drives?

Glad I searched on SD before posting. Great find OP, beat me to it by 5 days.

compared this to the other 199 deal at jr and b&h, the hitachi touro pro is 7200rpm while the western digital is 5700 rpm! this is a good deal for costco members.

i'm tempted to get one of these and crack it open. doesn't look like a "normal" head-parking green drive, hopefully it's more reliable?

definitely not a green drive, i have 6 of these in 2 separate nas units now, but my nas does hibernate often.

performance OK? this sounds like a really good desktop drive to use for storage...
