I have been reselling for last 5 years but last two years i got screwed at the BB in my area. Originally I would buy everything i could at BB. But last year they limited me to 1 product of each category from doorbusters. So 1 tv 1 laptop 1 tablet. Before it was 1 of each doorbuster. Also i feel profit margins are shrinking making it less profitable unless I can buy in bulk. I live in Oregon where we got no sale tax and i sell on Craigs in order to avoid shipping, and ebay/paypal fees. This year I think ill stay home.
The Furby's are everywhere here, they seem like a ripoff with a price tag of $54, the box is small for what you are getting and there doesn't seem to be much to the toy. Personally, I think they are ugly and not cute at all. I have one of the 2005 Furby's (that I paid 10 cents for at a yard sale) and it is huge, they could have at least made it that size. For $54 I think parents will just buy their kid another video game, since $50-60 is the average price for a new video game at a store.
It seems every year more and more parents are going for iPad's, iPod's, other electronics and video games for children that are younger and younger every day. I do not blame them, if I had kids I would rather buy them an iPad they will use every day for many years than hundreds of dollars in toys that will be tossed aside within a couple days. Besides lego's and a few other exceptions most toys have very limited play value and command a very expensive price. But Lego's, those are universally loved in my family, even by the kids who are now too old to play with toys, and by some adults too! I would have no problem shelling out money for Lego's since I know they will actually be used. Those too young for real video games get toys by Leap Pad and V-tech like the leapster and innotab. I don't see any clear hot toy item this year. The hot item will no doubt be the Wii U game system.
I wouldn't bother standing outside of a store in my area to get an item just to resell, that is insane because I don't think there is an item that I could make enough profit on to justify doing that.
I am not a heavy reseller, but I have only had one instance where I have made a decent profit off buying something from a retail store and immediately turning around and selling it on ebay, and this has nothing to do with BF either. That item was a digimon toy that could only be found at Kmart, the toy cost about $12 and I was pushing them for $40 on ebay easily, about 2-3 years ago. That is the only time in my life where I have found something that I could made profit from directly from a retail store.
