Just to put this out there, I effing hate my XPS 13. Flaky trackpad, vents on the bottom (can't put on a bed, etc...), sometimes fan will run most of the day, sometimes not, terrible battery life, nearly constant high pitched squeal, etc...
As soon as I get the trackpad issue fixed (doubt it will ever be) I am selling this turd. Why couldn't they just use a synaptics or Dell trackpad? You have been warned. |

Your frustration is understandable. However have you looked on forums and tried to resolve any of this? It seems from the reviews that I see you are in the minority as far as being dissatisfied. Perhaps you got a lemon? |

It is mostly that not every tap to click registers and there are a lot of people talking about this issue. Here is the problem: A lot of people use external mice (as do I, I rarely if ever use the actual trackpad, hence why I have yet to send it back) and many people use click to select as opposed to tap to click, and a lot of people can go either way, and even worse.... A lot of people will have a turd trackpad and not even care or notice, and even worse, a lot of people like to bullshit themselves because they don't want to feel the negative feelings that would go along with such problems. The problem is well documented all of over the internet. Type in XPS 13 tr into google and just pick one of the trackpad problem searches that google suggests for you. The point is, don't wait for 8. Buy 7 and pay the 14 (or whatever) and upgrade to 8 and have them both. |

FYI, I ordered this computer last week for my wife (refurbished), for $695 + tax. The laptop had a tiny scratch in a not really noticeable spot, and since my wife ended up falling in love with a MacBook Air instead (which I bought from Amazon Warehouse deals at a good discount), we decided to return the XPS 13. It was a tough choice. The XPS 13 was absolutely beautiful and it's without a doubt, the nicest and lightest ultabook you can get, specially in this price range. At $622 is an even better deal. When I was on the phone with Dell, coordinating the return, they offered me a $25 credit to keep it. I said no thanks. Then the lady proceeded to offer me $55 to keep it. Since my wife already had her MacBook Air, I was REALLY tempted to keep it for myself. I ended up saying no. But if any of you order it, you might wanna try and play the picky buyer afterwards on the phone with Dell for 5 minutes. Ending up scoring this sexy beast for under $600 would be insane.
By the way, I've purchased almost a dozen computers from Dell Outlet in the last 5 years, and his was the first time they sent me a computer without the original box. I could have chosen instead of the refurbished a "dell outlet new" for 50 bucks more. In the future, I will go for this option since the original box is a big deal for me. Having it, has increased the resell value of every computer I've bought, used, and subsequently sold in order to offset the price of an upgrade. Don't forget you also get to register for a free Windows 8 upgrade for 15 bucks. Which I did, and I was surprised they didn't even ask me for order number or anything. Just if I had purchased a Windows 7 machine between such and such date, model, and manufacturer. Apparently, anybody could register for this special price upgrade without even buying a new computer at all. Last edited by TheBigmac; 10-15-2012 at 10:43 PM.. |

It honestly works great and there are a lot of new features on the desktop which are great.
Also this price really isn't that amazing. I got one of these back on June 30th for $630 before tax. It's been 3.5 months and Windows 8 and a ton of new hardware is about to launch and these have only dropped by $10. Last edited by petard; 10-15-2012 at 10:52 PM.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |
