Now an important note, I do NOT advocate buying a GPU only to mine but if you were thinking of buying a $360 GPU for games like GTX670/HD7970, then might as well buy the 7970 Ghz since it's as fast as a GTX680, but can mine on the side when you are not gaming. Even if you mine when you sleep and then at the work/school 9-5, it's extra $ you didn't have. You don't have to do anything with BitMinter, but just leave your GPU to do all the work. Bitminter doesn't even use the CPU, you don't need the monitor turned on even. Wake up at 7-8am, go to work 9-5, come home eat dinner, start gaming for 3-4 hours if you do, then go to sleep and turn on mining and turn it off at 6pm the next day. It starts to add up. $50 a month, next month that's $50x2, then $50x3, etc. People who started mining with HD7970s in January 2012 paid for their cards now. This perk is often on the DL as almost no miners talk about it because if more people join the network, the difficulty rises which hurts existing miners. But I am a nice guy and I shared the tip on how to set it up ![]() NV owners never like talking about it since NV cards can't do this, and it makes their $500 GTX680 purchase seem like a waste of $ in March 2012. I'm a BTC miner, too, and was interested in this card for gaming and mining. I agree, don't get it just to mine. He failed to mention that the reward for mining will be reduced by 50% on Nov 30th of this year. Mine like crazy 'til then is the moral of the story! |

Also, obviously this goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway because I should know better, yet fell victim to it. I was having trouble getting this (and the Diamond 7970) to run without crashing my entire pc. I did the usual uninstall of CCC and reinstall but still had crashes, Until I made sure every bit of renaming AMD and NV drivers were gone, including "dual core optimizer", then installed new driver (actually went with 12.6). Now everything runs smooth as silk. Sure, sometimes you can get away with not being as thorough, but it may not be worth the time it could cost you in the log run. After trolling the web for articles and reviews. The card will run hotter...but simply because of my resolution 2560x1600 and the memory interface...the card will just out perform what I have now.
In for 1<---- EDIT: Update I sold my GTX 670 4GB for $420 via direct sale via paypal. I bought this card and still have 47$ left to spend! :-) |

If you mine alone, you might mine $550 worth of coin tomorrow, or possible nothing for the rest of the year. |
