This perk is often on the DL as almost no miners talk about it because if more people join the network, the difficulty rises which hurts existing miners. But I am a nice guy and I shared the tip on how to set it up

NV owners never like talking about it since NV cards can't do this, and it makes their $500 GTX680 purchase seem like a waste of $ in March 2012.

You forgot to add how addicting all that mining really is. Many great men have lost everything in search of the holy 50btc. I lost my kids and my wife to bitcoin mining and spend my whole day staring at my found shares increasing. It's bad.

Tried a little BC mining a while back and found it to be nearly worthless even with my 5870 but i only tried it for a short time so i'll have to try it again with my new machine on BF. Can you enhance the mining with CPU usage also? I don't pay for electricity and i doubt its going to hurt my new machine any...

CPU mining is worthless, even with a new one. I have an i7-920 and I mine Litecoins with it, but not BTC. With mining BTC, you have to be patient and don't even think of trying to mine on your own. In order to see any coins in a reasonable time, you'll need to do pool mining.

I'm a BTC miner, too, and was interested in this card for gaming and mining. I agree, don't get it just to mine. He failed to mention that the reward for mining will be reduced by 50% on Nov 30th of this year. Mine like crazy 'til then is the moral of the story!

I am about to pull the trigger on this, but does anyone have any comments on how loud this is (especially compared to the 670 GTX)? I'm coming from a silent card.

Also, obviously this goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway because I should know better, yet fell victim to it. I was having trouble getting this (and the Diamond 7970) to run without crashing my entire pc. I did the usual uninstall of CCC and reinstall but still had crashes, Until I made sure every bit of renaming AMD and NV drivers were gone, including "dual core optimizer", then installed new driver (actually went with 12.6). Now everything runs smooth as silk. Sure, sometimes you can get away with not being as thorough, but it may not be worth the time it could cost you in the log run.

Pool mining like with other people? Wouldn't the coins be split so you would gain nothing or possibly be on the losing end of the deal?
