I still think my $606 deal for t3i +18-55 + 55-230 + pro mark printer after $400 rebate is better, but if you want it hassle free, this is a sweet deal too!

i personally dont mind rebate deals, i am adamant about filling them out right and always get em' but yeah i think its nice to see this price point with out having to wait for a printer rebate...

No rebate is very nice but it's more expensive than recent deals, no free printer, and the 75-300 lens lacks image stabilization. I don't know about you but I need the IS at 300mm!

For tripod shooters, the 75-300 Mk3 is sharper than the 70-300 IS. If you shoot a lot of fast shutter shots, the difference is also not highly noticeable from my own limited experience with the 75-300 (which is also less bulky and lighter than the IS). But I own the 70-300 IS and am very happy with it for general use.

dpreview.com is a good all-around source of info
there's waaaay to much info to summarize in a quick snippet. If you're serious about getting into it, probably spend a couple months doing research on brands and the bodies, lenses, and what they all offer. you can't go wrong with picking up some good couple-year-old used equipment to start off (a used Canon T2i with 18-135 lens was my first DSLR after I finally decided to plunge into the Canon camp) and either building off of that or selling it off and getting something else. a good slickdeal is a good option too, as you can always sell it slightly used for a little less than you paid for it.

but in general, everything depends on too many personal variables for what you should do, but starting to do research will get you closer.
