Just made a trip. Used at $15 and $10 without any of the aforementioned problems but the dang register was impossibly slow. It took me almost ten minutes for two transactions because it kept pausing and stuttering. UGH!

It sounds like someone may have figured out how they do the bar codes and is stealing them. Personally, I don't really care if people got thousands of these for themselves, but if they steal ONE from someone who played the game fairly, then the idea of the game from Home Depot is ruined, and if you ruin it for the target, you ruin it for all of us...

This reminds me of how Apple was mad at M$ for stealing the "Windows UI" idea from Xerox just as Apple stoled the same area from Xerox. Smilie

I have a theory that HD is using this coupon even to test out their real-time, floor-based digital video surveillance system and they knew that there would be people creating multiple accounts and working the system. The test would be to see if they could accurately ID those that have been working the system by face recognition software and correlate that with the issued coupon bar code to IP address to further conclude their suspicions.

And to further theorize, your register was stuttering cause the camera didn't capture your face and the registered balked until it did get your face.

yes, I am paranoid and this is what I think about on my free time...

I just burned all my Zombie Coupons... going to schedule a couple of sessions with my plastic surgeon to thwart Home Depot's efforts in bringing me down....

see you guys in the clink...

Every time I've been to home depot to use these coupons, I wore a baseball cap pulled way down over my eyes, zipped up my jacket, and put my almost whole face into my jacket so my face wouldn't be recorded. Never had a problem.

Na, we landed on the moon. I am just trying to make sense of this whole coupon thing, just seems too good of a deal if you think about it. What other store has ever given away free money to this degree? Sure you get a maybe a $5 off something here and there, but never got a deal that just hands you over money.

As far as the Obama comment goes, not sure about that one, google "Obama's ring" I am perplexed by that "theory". I am not saying, I am just saying.

There could be any number of reasons. One of the things I thought about is how it is "Lawn & Garden" which probably doesn't sell as much going into the winter time (of course the fact that they are letting it work on Christmas / Cleaning supplies kind of kills that).

They probably built a pretty nice email list from legit players. There are also plenty of people that got bored and stopped playing after the $5. Overall, the idea is nice (game with coupon reward).

The problem is they didn't take into account the non-legit players. There could have been something in the contract with the company that build the game where they are going to have to take a hit from this. All in all, they probably set a budget and met it so they stopped the game early. Even with cheat engine, there was still a limit as to how many you could get as it still took time (after they fixed some of the bigger exploits). They got really screwed with someone released the javascript code that let you get the coupons without playing. If that would have been up here for a longer period of time, Home Depot might have taken different action.

Considering it is a lawn and garden coupon and having worked retail in the past. They probably aren't losing that much money. "Some" stuff people are buying is stuff that they probably wouldn't have sold and would have had to clearance / get rid of anyway. They are most definitely taking a hit on people stocking up on the cleaning supplies / paper towels / laundry detergent / etc as I am sure their costs are higher on those products than the lawn and garden products.

At this point, I wouldn't over analyze it. They put the game out there, people got great coupons, now use them. Let Home Depot Corporate office worry about the other stuff. I doubt we will see something like this again.

FYI: I think HD may have changed the way the zombie coupon stacks with the 50 off 100 coupon. I previously purchased $115 worth of stuff, with $15 being lawn/garden and it worked fine in one transaction. Today it did not work. I had to take the lawn/garden stuff out and do it separately. I think what may have happened was the lawn/garden item (I bought a $20 lopper/pruner combo) was discounted 50% for purposes of applying the $15 coupon. I scanned the $15 first and it took it, then I scanned the 50 off 100 and it took that, too, but it took off the $15. So I am thinking that if you want to use the two coupons together you may need to get $30 worth of lawn/garden so that the return value is over $15. Not 100% sure of this, but just wanted to share my experience. I think in the future I am just going to do separate transactions and not try to stack. It only is a benefit to stack if your lawn/garden item is over $15, anyway. I think now if your lawn/garden item is between $15 and $30 stacking will not work. But that is just a guess and a heads up ...
What are people's experiences on stacking the $15 and $50 on Lawn and Garden items? I was told by someone who tried to purchase a $130 leave blower that they did not stack.

Anyone else have problems/success?
