Also driving style matter. If you drive in town mostly and rarely go over 30mph, you don't need supertires. |

Until you've dealt with thousands of tires and have seen the build quality of the beads and sidewalls of cheapo tires, then it's hard for me to believe your statement. I've worked as a tech in the back, I've seen how flimsily some tires are built. Heck, I've even mounted tires as cheap as $14. There's a lot of research and science that goes into making tires. There's many things where no-name brands put out just as good quality, because their costs are lowered due to no advertising. You yourself said there is no-name junk. There's a higher risk of a bad tire from that junk. Is it worth the risk of a life? However, I agree that driving style makes a difference. I push my tires and need them to not fail me, ever. I take care of my tires, and expect the same from them. If you've never been in a blow out, it's quite a dangerous situation. If you never/rarely go above 30 mph (an very small part of the population) then, I agree, tire quality is not as large of a factor. Still a blow out can easily damage your car in excess of $400. Majority of people who drive use freeways and drive in excess of 60 mph and drive faster than how you're describing your style. I don't want people to take your advice and put themselves in dangerous situations. |

For those that are considering this, it looks like only selected areas in SoCal are included. A quick check online shows that LA and Ventura counties dont get it. Riverside does. Hopefully this is not the case because the rebate form says "Southern California Discount/America’s Tire location".

As I said before, I've worked at a tire shop. I've seen all brands can blow out, I've been scratched up pretty badly from having to dismount tires with tons of steel belts waiting to rip apart my skin. So no, I'm not saying a name on a tire will ensure no blow outs. If you think I'm saying otherwise, well.... I don't know how else to say this to you. If you've had problems with more than 1 set of tires with sidewall bubbles and flat spots, that points me towards user error. Never checking inflation (or waiting for the TPS to tell you they're low), or poor maintenance of tires most likely lead to your problems. So, I agree, if you're having these problems, go right ahead with no name tires, as NO tire outside of maybe really expensive run flats, will save you from these problems. Not once have I ever had any problems with any sets of my tires outside of slightly too much camber wear or tramlining. However, I take care of my tires because I know they're the difference between me going home safely and being in a dangerous wreck. If I spend an extra $400 ever few years, it's worth the extra few percentage points. You deem it not, that's where our difference is. In case you still don't understand my point, here's a nice short and sweet version: My driving style requires solid sidewalls, rubber that doesn't overheat easily, and will allow my car to go over 30 mph safely. It's worth a few hundred dollars a year (less than 50 cents/day) to increase the chance that I get home safely. |

I received my $100 rebate from DTD a couple of weeks ago for the Labor Day special they had. I also rec'd my $75 rebate from Cooper this week so the rebates are stackable and come fairly quick.
As far as brands go, I try to avoid the lesser known made in China tires for now until they build up more of a reputation. It wasn't too long ago that brands like Hancook and Kumho used to be no-names in the US market until they proved themselves in the marketplace. I got my mind on my money and my money on my mind
